I bought a Playstation 3 today, bundled with Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
Basically, I bought the machine because of this game, it it doesn't disappoint.
The graphics are amazing - 1920x1080 resolution, with some of the best car models you have seen in a video game.
The car physics are also very good - a great improvement from previous Gran Turismo games. The last one I played was GT3 on the PS2, which I enjoyed but didn't think the car physics were all that great.
The concept is similar to previous GT games. You start with a small amount of money to buy a cheaper car, and have to compete in events to earn money for better cars, and to unlock more advanced events to try.
There are online races, and you also earn money for victories in these.
Like previous GT games, there is no car damage in this one. Hit a wall as hard as you like. It will slow you down but you can still keep driving. This is the main area where realism suffers.
The game requires installation on the PS3's hard drive, which seemed like a lengthy process. There was also a patch that required downloading before online play could be attempted (and the game was only released last week). This was about 400 megs and took several attempts to download properly. I guess this has been a popular release and lots of people are hitting the servers. But it worked in the end.
So I have played for a few hours now, and am over half-way through the lowest series of events (C class events). Some seem quite easy to win, some are nightmares.
I believe the US gets this on 15th April. I recommend it highly if you like racing games, and especially if you like simulations more than arcade racers.
