View Full Version : The stupidest motive in a Slasher

Inspired by an article which I read at another site...

We all either love or hate slashers. Either way, we have seen em. Some of us have seen PLENTY of em. I myself love a good slasher studded with good chase and gore sequences, and if done right, gets into my good books.

However, I cannot tolerate movies like I Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legend (both parts), Slumber Party Massacre, etc. because the plot and motive for the killing sounds so dumb and stupid at the end...leaving me either eye-rolling or pulling my hair out.

So...which slashers have made you go ballistic at the makers? And why?

You read it on Bloody-Disgusting! I was about to start this topic...

I haven't seen it, but reading that article... "Death Row" definitely.

hmm..

Fri 13 #2 - 10 (or however many they made)

Halloween #4 - whatever the last one was

the origional Nightmare on Elm St wasnt a slasher film - but all of it's sequels pretty much were - and they were bad (until the last one)

my list would be too damn big - i think 90% of all north american slashers stink to high heavens.

I enjoyed this movie but I have to say the original Black Christmas.

Yep, read it over at B-D...and thought it would be a great topic for a thread.

Anyone who has seen a no-brainer slasher from the 80s would agree with me when I say that the principal downslide for the slasher phenomenon was THE MOTIVE.

And to think they were the next big thing when they bloomed into the late 70s, with so many bullseye hits and giallos galore.

I mean...MurderDoll adores Sleepaway Camp still. While not the greatest slasher conceived, the motive at the end was sorta thin, doncha think?

I'd have to agree say the "Scream" and "..Last Summer" movies. Halloween H20 was crap as well as most of the other films made during the "Late 90's Slasher Revival" era.

EDIT: I need glasses. I mistook "motive" for "movie".

I really don't remember the exact motive from the scream movies. It got so muddled, but I remember it was sort of stupid.

"Sunshine" surprisingly turns into a slasher at the end, which was welcome as it was well done. But I really don't recall the reason Pinbacker went crazy and started killing everyone. Any thoughts?

I like Don't Open Til Christmas, but that has a really lame motive.

I thought the 'motive' was of average girth.

Psychotic killers don't really need a motive. They're insane. And even if they weren't... revenge is always a good one. So... maybe I'm missing the point here.

Slashers in general suck. they are mindless, usually empty characters that arent worth rooting for. The motives are usually a meeger excuse for the killing, though the original f13 had a reason, as did the original NOES. I do like the first 2 Halloween movies.

Sleepaway camp is a complete throwaway movie, until the last scene.
The first scream was clever.
