Ellen Page Gets Dragged Into Hell
Source: Variety
February 9, 2008
Big Saturday news from Variety who are reporting that actress-of-the-moment Ellen Page, star of Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody's comedy Juno--firmly in the top 10 having grossed over $110 million--will follow that film's creative duo into her own horror movie, this one directed by none other than Sam Raimi. Drag Me To Hell will be Raimi's long-awaited return to the horror genre as a director since 1992's Army of Darkness, having spent much of the last eight years working on the "Spider-Man" trilogy.
Playing the recipient of a supernatural curse, this will be Page's second foray into horror, having starred in David Slade's psychological thriller Hard Candy, the movie that introduced most people to Page's talents as an actress.
Even though Page is also attached to headline Drew Barrymore's Whip It, Raimi's horror flick will be next for the young actress with shooting to begin on March 17 in L.A.

Justin Long (Jeepers Creepers, Live Free or Die Hard) has signed on to star opposite Alison Lohman in Sam Raimi's supernatural thriller "Drag Me to Hell" for Ghost House Pictures.
Raimi and his brother Ivan penned the screenplay, a morality tale about the unwitting recipient of a supernatural curse. Long will play the boyfriend of Lohman's character.
Shooting is set to start March 31 in Los Angeles. Lohman replaced Ellen Page, who dropped out of the project last month due to scheduling conflicts.
Universal is distributing domestically and in select international territories. Mandate Intl. will handle all other foreign territories.
Rob Tapert, Grant Curtis and Josh Donen are producing. Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake exec produce.
Long, who starred alongside Bruce Willis in "Live Free or Die Hard," will next star in "He's Just Not That Into You."

I'm pretty pumped. Raimi Horror is coming back!

This afternoon Universal Pictures provided the full official synopsis for Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell, which stars Alison Lohman, Justin Long, Jessica Lucas, Dileep Rao, Lorna Raver, David Paymer, Adriana Barraza,Fernanda Romero, Reggie Lee, Alex Veadov, Bojana Novakovic and Bill E. Roger.
Raimi calls it a 'spook-a-blast,' a wild ride with all the chills and spills that 'Evil Dead' delivered, without relying on the excessive violence of that film.
Filming has begin in Los Angeles, CA.
Director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man trilogy, Evil Dead series) returns to the horror genre with Drag Me To Hell, an original tale of a young woman’s desperate quest to break an evil curse.
Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) is an ambitious L.A. loan officer with a charming boyfriend, professor Clay Dalton (Justin Long). Life is good until the mysterious Mrs. Ganush (Lorna Raver) arrives at the bank to beg for an extension on her home loan. Should Christine follow her instincts and give the old woman a break? Or should she deny the extension to impress her boss, Mr. Jacks (David Paymer), and get a leg-up on a promotion? Christine fatefully chooses the latter, shaming Mrs. Ganush and dispossessing her of her home.
In retaliation, the old woman places the powerful curse of the Lamia on Christine, transforming her life into a living hell. Haunted by an evil spirit and misunderstood by a skeptical boyfriend, she seeks the aid of seer Rham Jas (Dileep Rao) to save her soul from eternal damnation. To help the shattered Christine return her life to normal, the psychic sets her on a frantic course to reverse the spell. As evil forces close in, Christine must face the unthinkable: how far will she go to break free of the curse?

This sounds incredibly entertaining...here's hoping Sam still has the ol' knack for horror - he hasnt really made a horror flick since Evil Dead II (unless you count Army of Darkness or The Gift; haven't seen The Gift, but I really dont consider AoD to be horror, and Gift sounds more like a thriller/mystery)

The gift was kind of lame in my opinion, never liked Sam Raimi though.

I love Evil Dead, who doesnt but i have to be honest here and say that Raimi is not the genius we were led to believe.
ED 2 is just a rehash of the first while the third offering is just an excuse for a comedy precurser to his tv efforts Hercules and Xena. There were alright but hardly classic.
So his next effort will be greated with caution by me,i hope i am wrong but doubt it.

I agree with Anthro, Evil Dead is one of my favorite horror movies but Raimi had not produced anything since that has impressed me. Truthfully I don't like most of his movies. I'll still probably end up seeing this one though.

In 'The Unseen Force: The Films of Sam Raimi', Dino DeLaurentis bought the rights to an 'Evil Dead' sequel (aka 'Dead Before Dawn'). The problem Raimi had with it was DeLaurentis wanted the exact same film as 'Evil Dead' rather than what we all know as 'Army of Darkness', which was what Sam & Co. proposed as the actual sequel. This explains why 'DBD' is basically a rehash of 'ED' with the 3 Stooges humor thrown in since they didn't want to make the same movie again entirely. I always hate sequels almost as much as I hate remakes. '30 Days of Night' was cool and was produced by Raimi so there's hope yet that not everything is going to be a CGI 'Spiderman' knockoff.

I wrote a cool vampire song in the 80's called LAMIA; maybe, I can sell it to RAIMI. This film sounds very cool; by the way, I like EVIL DEAD II way better than part I.

i love Raimi
Me too, he's shown us he can do straight up horror or he can blend it with comedy (and lean more toward EITHER side with great results). He's not limited to horror flicks either and while I haven't seen all his movies I really liked his Spiderman series, Evil Dead series, Darkman, Crimewave, and The Quick and the Dead. He's done plenty enough that I've enjoyed for me to really look forward to this one.
i hope they gave stephen king a big chunk of cash because after watching the trailer this looked like a total rip off of THINNER

I think the whole "you didn't give me a house loan and now I'm going to curse you" thing (which is in the beginning of the trailer) is a little lame. The rest looks like it could be good, but I think they could have come up for a better reason to be cursed.

I felt that way, too, until I thought about what context it'll probably be in in the movie. It seems like it's going to be more like Evil Dead II or Army of Darkness, so a curse put on someone like that might be appropriately silly.

100% so far on Rotten Tomatoes.

Honestly, I think that the ad looks awful, but according to the reviews this is old school Raimi. If that is the case, I'm pretty psyched about it.

Are you saying this movie will contain lots of humor??
I honestly thought it would be another "The gift".

Looks atmospherically right...just don't know about the whole "curse" bit, I tend to end up not liking films of this type.
But, it's Raimi, doing horror again...I'll see it.

Zero, ma singe, I love you, but what in the hell were you smoking when you watched the trailor?
I kind of dig Raimi. There are others I like better. I've never seen any of the Spiderman movies, because, frankly, they don't interest me.
