When you go to the cinema do you always go with someone, do you go by yourself, have you ever met someone who thought it was weird that you go by yourself, do you think it's weird if someone goes by themself?
Do you eat popcorn, do you drink water, do you go for the combo or sneak your own snacks in.
Do you ever walk out dureing a movie and go see something else or just walk into another after the movie you went to see finishes?
What do you do at the Cinema?

LOL why would someone go to the movies alone? Just stay home and watch a DVD. I think it's a little weird to go alone. I drink water, usually... popcorn aswell. When my friends and I used to go to movies a lot we'd sneak snacks in, but I'm fine with water and popcorn. Whenever I finish watching a movie at the theater, the last thing I want to do is watch another one.
This is usually what happens when I go see a movie:
My boyfriend and I get there like 30 min early so we can get good seats.
We go down to the arcade in the lobby to play Air Hockey
We find out we shouldn't have wasted time playing Air Hockey because the theater is now packed and we're standing in the entry-way looking for seats in the dark.
We sit in our bad seats, watch a mediocre movie and then leave :)
I love the theater, I just don't care much for the movies they play there. :p
I don't think its so weird to go alone if its a movie you really want to see. I never have myself....but I would....if I had to.
Back "in the day" me and my friends would sneek beers in.......do the loud cough to cover up the psssssst noise when you opened it.
ah yes....good times

*Sarcastic giggle* I saw Dawn of the Dead by myself, and had a good time. I got both armrests. No one asked me a single fucking question. I could find my own groove. I was better able to fully enjoy the film. I would suggest that if there is a film you really wanna see, see it alone. Then go have your shared experience with your crew. I saw SawII alone and Darkwater, but left Darkwater because it was so fucking boring.
I'm not shitting on you Dolly, just trying to be funny and mean,
I hate popcorn., and I don't do liquids, because I don't want to have to pee half way through the film.

It won't be long before they let you have drinks in adult flicks. I think some theatres do have brews don't they?
God, Newb I can so see this.
I have to say my best movie experience was at a drive-in but we weren't drinking our poison. However, we weren't watching a good film either. After a while it didn't really matter.
Thanks, Doll.;)

Indipendent cinemas you can genearally buy an over priced beer in, but If I was to ever drink in a cinema I just take my own, but hate having to leave to take a piss if it's a good movie.
I have seen more movies by myself than with others, I find it far more enjoyable, I don't go to the movies to talk, the people who do should get blacklisted by cinemas...
I like going dureing the day by myself and getting the entire cinema to myself almost.
Just the other week I saw Cloverfield, I was the only person there. not suprised really, considering it sucked balls.

The friends with the same taste as me, who wont talk the whole time, don't live here. The ones that don't and will, I'd rather not go with. Therefore, I usually go alone and prefer it that way most of the time. If that's weird, oh well.
Depending on how early I am, I'll play a game or two in the arcade.
I drink water, buy candy sometimes.
No semblance of a clue why, but I always sit at the top right.

I like 2 thirds to the back centre...
other wise left and to the back. I like cinemas with push up arm rests so you can lounge, that's awesome.

The EMagine theater by me (in Novi, MI) has a full bar, you can get drinks before going in and if you get "premium" seats you get a wristband and have somebody come by to get you more. I could never go to a theater alone and wouldn't really want to sneak into another flick after just sitting through one.

I think it would feel weird to go alone. I agree with MD. Watch a DVD.
I don't usually get snacks unless whoever I'm with wants them.
When my movie is over, it's usually time to go home because the theater is closing. So I just leave.

I can't believe so many of you freaks are wierded out to go to a movie by your self, do you need to hold someones hand?
You can't watch a new film on dvd, are you saying people should not go to the cinema but find other ways to use their time. This is really cracking me up....

I usually go alone, and sit all the way in the back (as to not have anyone behind me... nothing worse than some idiot kicking your seat). Prefer it that way too. I hate having people nudge me during a "badass" scene (i.e: my brother during Batman begins), or having to share the armrest, respecting the other person's space.... blah. And, when I do decide to go to the theatre, I see 2 or 3 movies back to back (thank you, oh mighty UGC card).

I'm not weirded out by it, I just find it pointless to go spend $10 bucks, get all duded up, just to go sit in a theater to watch a movie that will be released on DVD in 2 months.
No, you can't watch new films on DVD. But if you wait a couple of months, you can catch it then, and in the mean time, watch something you missed while it was in the theaters.
And I'm not saying they shouldn't go. Hell, I'd go by myself if they released the original Halloween back in theaters. But to go see a hit or miss film alone, it's rather uncomfortable to sit in those horrid chairs they provide you with. I'd rather stay at home in my comfortable recliner, and pause the movie when I have to go take a piss, or refill my drink and snack.

I do if it's a social/special type thing. Hanging out with friends, date, etc.
But I feel like, if I'm going to be alone, I might as well be alone, in the comfort of my own home.

I don't mind going to the cinema alone, would rather do that than miss something I want to see on the big screen. My problem with going to the movies is mainly that I have no interest in seeing most of this new stuff. It mostly looks very boring to me! Not all of it but most of it. So I'll generally just get an old video because the crap they made back then was much classier crap! Ah.....

Yeah, I don't know, talking to other people at the cinema who are there by them selfs seems odd, it's more like you all just had an orgy and you don't know what to say each other because you don't know who put what where.
but often I run into hot chicks that are there by them selfs as well, it just not the time or place.. besides, I'm back on with my girl at the moment.

Mostly its with friends, sometimes family. Normally, if I prefer to watch a movie alone, its at home on DVD.
We make it a point to get seats in the centre, because that offers the best view. Of course there's popcorn and sodas sometimes...but usually we get some snacks from outside.
Movie theaters here are not that strict about the no-drinking rule, and especially for late night shows...they are pretty liberal. I ve seen people drinking and discussing (and even puking!), and get away with it (sometimes they do pay the doorman an extra $10 for their messes, heh).
The I-dont-give-a-damn rule is pretty evident.

Well it looks like Monday I'll be going to the drive in to see Diary of the Dead (again) and The Eye in a double feature. I can't wait... nice in car heaters, good speakers, and what is supposedly the largest year round drive-in in the world. The best thing is they have a showing that starts at 1:45 AM (although I don't know if we'll be waiting until that late to see it). Now THAT'S cinema.
(sometimes they do pay the doorman an extra $10 for their messes, heh).
If only everybody was that considerate. I went with a group one time where one kid decided to pour his uneaten popcorn all over the floor and then jump around on it to crush it all. Asshole.

Now THAT's bad.
Most of em here are usually the drinking-puking-passing out types. Of course the staff works overtime for that kinda lot, so its a good gesture from the viewers.
Besides, most of em would demand extra cash, especially if they are doing cleaning-ups of messes. Not that I have seen any staffer actually ASK for it though.

That reminds me of the time I went to see Grease when it was released for the 20 year aniversary. My girl at the time was a huge fan.
We saw it in Blacktown Western Sydney late afternoon, there was cinema seats in the isles, popcorn being thrown everywhere, it actually fel like it should have though.

I go to the movies by myself all the time. Most of my friends only go if they REALLY wanna see the movie. I like to go when I think the movie might be good or what not so I go whenever if it's by myself, with friends, or my girlfriend.
Food is 50/50 with me. I bring food sometimes, sometimes I eat before I go to the movies, or I get some cool combos there to save money. It all depends on the mood and money situation.

I don't have a problem going to the movies alone, and I don't find it all that weird. I can be incredibly antisocial and introspecitve sometimes, and going to the movies is a nice way to get out an dhave time by yourself.
HOWEVER, I prefer to drag my boyfriend because he's my best friend, brilliant, and defintely enjoys movie discussions (whether the movie's a guilty pleasure movie or something considered High Art). Most of my friends don't have the same movie taste as I do, so I don't generally go with them... And I know I've ranted about it before, but I HATE going to the movies with my boyfriend's family.
But I LOVE going to the movies with my own mother. I heart my mother. :)
I LOVE popcorn at the movies. And loooooots of fake butter (I know - SO good for you). Soda over water (need that caffeine to make sure that I don't droop away... That IS, however, ONLY if I feel like shelling out the cash. Snackage is SO expensive at the movies that I'll prefer to save my money for either lunch before or dinner afterwards (but I still relish greasey salty popcorn at the pictures).
My big problem with going to the movies: PEOPLE. I cannot STAND it when people talk through movies. And I'm starting to get more sensitive to it than ever before, which definitely takes away from the actual enjoyment of it.

The worst thing about the theater is sitting besides someone who smells horrible, atleast if you go with someone else you cut the chance of that happening by 50%
It's still only 50% though... My worst theater experience is when I went to see this movie (I forget the movie now, all I remember is the stench) with my boyfriend and this woman beside me smelt like an unholy marriage of rotten cottage cheese, nachos and feet. He couldn't even smell it, I died in my seat for 25-30 minutes and then we had to sit in the very front because those were the only seats available.

Cheers. It's nice to see someone else who treats their mom like a queen. In my situation, it was my dad who died of cancer in 2002. Being an only child, I'm pretty much there for my mom (just me!), and since she has refused all of my offers of paying for an online dating site, I figure I might as well take her out. :) And ever since I've grown interested in Independent film, so has she. So, hey, it's a GREAT excuse to see a good movie and take my mom out to dinner.

Yes. I honestly believe that people who talk during movies, people who gluttonously eat audibly during movies, people who are so incredibly disrespectful so as not to silence their mobile devices... Should be shot or stoned. I actually like the idea of hot pokers.
There's an idea that I've been crafting for a while. Either:
a. Everyone entering the theater has to sign a waver giving the right to vanquish any freedom after they emit any sound during the picture. Once obtrusive sound is emitted, the audience gains the right to torture them.
or (and probably more viable)
b. Headphones are available for those who actually want to hear and enjoy the film. Personally, when I watch movies, I like to tune everything out.

So I'm not at all ashamed to admit that I have OCD, which most of you know already. Sounds in the theatre piss me off to no fucking end. How many of you, like me, let people know they're annoying you? What are some of the things you do? I called this girl a cunt and kicked the back of her seat. Usually, however, it's the assholes behind me. So a simple glare at first followed by a hissing "Ssshhh!" If that doesn't get the point, a nice hissing "Shut the fuck up."
I know I seem too nice to do this, but back ground noise makes me angry, like country music makes me angry (the only time I feel homicidal). So, it's nice living in a small town. Not many people go for the horror films or any other decent movie except for me and a few folks from the college close by. Those people know how to behave.
Oh, Chrono Grl, I took my mum to see Tori Amos this past November. We had a blast. It's a groovy deal when yer mum'll go to a show with you. None of my other friends dig on Tori, because they suck. Mum loves her.

I was at the cinema today, we got poll position in the cnetre, there was only about 20 people in the theatre, but then some old couple sat next to us, fortunatley not on my side and then another behind my left shoulder.
Soon as the first scene began the ones on my left shoulder started talking, the other couple did it throughout, they both drove me crazy. When ever something started to happen in the movie they would start to mutter.
I found it hard to restrain myself from showering them in pistachio shells.

I've been to the movies by myself, and didn't see anything wrong with it. For a long while, I was the only one I knew that really had an appreciation for horror films so no one would go with me...
But I find it better now, my husband and I go together, and he is there when the inevitable happens and someone pisses me off. I'm usually pretty passive, and non confrontational.....being in a movie theater tends to bring out the worst in me, and often I just can't enjoy the movie. If I go, there is going to be some weirdo that is going to do something that freaks me out (I lived near Atlanta WAY too long :p ), or someone is going to be talking during the film, or texting during the film (seriously WTF? why would someone do that?). So having him there calms me down, and makes it less likely that I will end up being locked up by the end of the night. Haha. This is why I prefer watching films in the comfort of my own home.
Its not so bad these days though I have to admit. The theater here is small, there is never too many people there, so there is plenty of room. But the down side of that is, he only shows two films at a time....and they usually aren't films I want to see. So to see the good stuff, we have to drive an absurdly long time.

I try to go to the cinema once a week. Sometimes with the wife and kids, sometimes alone.
I go to my local revival house, The New Beverly Cinema on a regular basis. They show tons of classic exploitation and horror from the 60s 70s & 80s...and I usually go there alone, but the theater itself is like a little community, so I usually know a couple of people when I get there.
Adam Green, Joe Lynch, John & Clu Gulager, Ryan Rotten & Spooky Dan are usually in attendance for the semi-monthly Grindhouse Film Fest and the concession stand has real butter for the popcorn! Boozing and tomfoolery is encouraged and it's always a double-feature for $8!!!!
when I'm not there, I'm at the ArcLight theater, which is a little more expensive than most theaters, but the screens, seats, and sound systems are state of the art...the best you're going to find. There is also assigned seating and ushers who announce the film and patrol the theater. And it's 3 block from my apartment!!!!

I actually find myself confronted with the same problem: I focus more on the audience than I do at the movie at times to the point where I can't enjoy the movie. It's actually something that I'm trying to get over, but I find that if we go out for drinks first (not get drunk, mind you), I become a little less sensitive.
But I just don't understand a culture of people who think it's appropriate to talk during movies, because it's not. My boyfriend and his family are like that, and it drives me crazy.
Rod - That movie house sounds incredible. There are some good art house cinemas around in Boston (Coolige Corner and Brattle Street Theater), but the movies are generally more expensive. I'll have to investigate them, though, as they generally host older movies, which is a great experience).

Oh yeah, I went to the New Beverly to see Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things, my first time there, and it was a blast. Absolutely wild, and the audience was full of serious geeks! ;) :o

I used to live next door to a theatre, so I went by myself a lot. I didn't think it was weird at all. I was off of work during the day while everyone else was working so I'd just stroll over there and watch a movie. I didn't do anything special (like getting "going out" dressed), I was just bored and wanted to see various movies on the "big screen" and before they came out on dvd.
Some of my "things" about going to the movies:
-no talking. if the person I am with is a talker, they will never go to the movies with me again. this is also why I very rarely go see movies anymore.
-no walking in late. this includes if the previews have started. if the person I am with causes me to be late, see above.
-no popcorn. I don't eat it and I want to murder people who get the giant tubs of it and munch it loudly behind me for 2 hours.
-sneaking in snacks is ok, as long as it isn't a lot or anything real "loud" (crunchy, lots of wrapper things, etc.). sneaking in beers is definitely ok, but not something I've done in a long time. and for some reason, it's always the really dive cinemas where I did that anyway.
Back when I lived ina a bigger town, there were theatres that had "real" food and "real" drinks. some of them even had a dining room. one in particular had tables set up on a flat surface and ran old movies (including horror movies) while you ate and drank. it was fun. on Halloween one year they showed Friday the 13th part 3 in 3D and everyone got real tanked and real loud. That was a lot of fun. unfortunately, there's nothing like that here.
