I'm guessing not many, but since I saw that Arioch is a fan of classical music, I figured I'd ask. His version of Francisco Tarrega's "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" on his "The Ledendary Segovia" album is quite possibly the best guitar playing I have ever heard. He's to classical guitar what Hendrix is to electric. I recommend picking up a copy for those that love guitar playing.

From the lack of responses, perhaps I'm alone playing a non-electric guitar lol. Then again, that is what I expected from reading most of the threads in this forum. If you've sold more than a million copies of an album and you're a contemporary hard rock artist, you're not cool.

The wannabe nonconformist of this board crack me up. Those individuals just conform to some other "alternative" beliefs and consider themselves nonconformist without examining their own actions. I love the ironic nature of most posters on this board!!! :D

Hey Nirvana havent seen you on the board recently. Whats going on?

Gotta admit im a segovia fan. I was introduced to him by my guitar teacher who tried to learn ALL of his stuff. He really is a truly amazing player/composer.

I havent heard an exceptional amount of his work tho. Im more into the baroque era, bach's a personal fav. (and is passacaglia in c-minor is probably my alltime favorite piece) but i try to get into that romantic shit tho. Like chopin, etc. Beethoven is in there to if im no mistaken. Glad to see a fellow classical lover tho.

Ever heard any Paganini? Now THAT fucker can play...

hey Nirvana, you need to get on more often. This thread will be buried again before you get back.ahh well....

I think you mentioned that you play classical, i wanted to know what you favorite piece to play was. I know alot of bach but cant remember the names of most of the ones i know. Im working on a version of the passacaglia in c minor but its like 23 mins. long:eek: a bit much.

My favorites to play would be air on a g string, moonlight sonata (altho beethoven is usually not very well suited to the guitar and a pain in the ass to play), a kinda random scottish jig sounding one called "strawberry swirl" this is one of the few somewhat recently composed ones i know.

My favorite would be Canon in D tho, its just a really beautiful, if somewhat overplayed, song.

Arioch,

I check the board every once and a while. I don't post too much.

You should buy that album I mentioned. The last song on that CD is AMAZING!!!! I just wish the recording was better, but it was recorded in the 1920s, so what can you expect? lol

I haven't heard of him. What does he play? I'm assuming classical guitar. I'll have to check him out if he is half the guitarist Segovia is. Segovia is the Beatles of classical guitar. He made it acceptable to the classical world. The guy is a true bad ass.

I haven't really played classical guitar since high school (now 24 and a 3rd year law student). I've actually been thinking of going to buy a classical guitar since I miss it. I probably can't read any notes outside of first or second position, though. I've lost those skills over the years lol.

I used to play a lot of Bach, etc. Of course those were simple guitar arrangements compared to the true ones like Segovia, etc., play(ed), but it was my attempt at it. I always hated sitting in the classical form and resting my foot on a foot rest.

I need to pick it up again. I love just screwing around playing classical guitars and playing what I feel rather than arrangements. I'm also that way with electric and steel string acoutic guitars, though. My attention span is so short and have so many other things to do that I rarely put in the effort to master another person's music. I used to know how to play most Nirvana and Metallica songs, now I would be lucky to remember the basic riffs to any of their songs lol. I'm lazy. :D

Oh no, he doesnt play guitar. He was like the essential classical violinist, and he played so fast that the people he played for (back in the 18th century) thought he sold his soul to the devil. So being the kinda attention whore he was he went with it and said he did. Well, apparently these people believe it soo much that when he did, his body was left to rot in his appartment because no one wanted to go in and get him out. Crazy story but ya he plays like incredibly fast, but ya violin, so its not quite the same as Segovia.

Ya i feal ya on this. When i was in high school i was still taking lessons and i used to learn new classical shit every monday. But having not been in almost 3 years now, im kinda falling off as well. There are a couple i still remember and practice but ya, too much effort into mastering someone elses songs. Great for social events tho, where a guitar is handy. But, i dont go to many social events these days:(

Wow, that is freaky. So were you just referring to his arrangements? Or are there actual recordings of him from the 18th century? It seems like there wouldn't be any recording instruments in the 1700s, but maybe they did.

I haven't played a "public performance" since I was 18. I've thought about starting a band once I'm out of law school, but I've never been fond of others' attention and the stage; plus, I'm not fond of traveling/touring and will have a large amount of student loans I have to pay off, sigh. :(

I may start a management firm for other bands/musicians, though. If I can't take the kitchen for the true action, I'll get in the backdoor and maintain my privacy. :D

No, I haven't, Buddy. What type does he play? Classical or steel string acoustic? Is it just guitar, or does he sing as well? I may have to DLed something of his to check it out. If it is good, I may buy some. I love hearing good guitar playing that isn't pure metal solos.

it's probably the most non-metal music ever.. very folky, american feel but he's amazing technically and his stuff just rolls. no singing usually.

I heard some samples on Best Buy's site for him. Sounds pretty good. I'll have to go buy his greatest hits and check him out.

True only because I can't afford to buy another one.

No im pretty sure its all arrangements:( Too bad huh? we can only hear some composers as arrangements and never hear how they would have played their own compositions. All the little nuances and shit that really made them great. Kinda makes me sad, ahh well...

I agree. The fact Segovia's recordings have such terrible sound quality piss me off. I can't even imagine his true power if he had modern technology to recrod all the sounds from his guitar.

Beethoven still is the king. I can't imagine writing what he did. Much less the fact he was deaf when he wrote a lot of what he did. That is mind blowing to think. He couldn't hear and didn't have sound recording equipment to help him out in recording is writing and arrangements. He's the king in my eyes.

Agreed. He was the shit, to do all that he did is by itself insane, but when you consider that he did it deaf its just amazing.
