I would like some advice on what horror movie to watch. I like the Saw Movies, Skelaton Key, Aliens, and so many I can't count. However, I have watched many of the most recent movies, because most are just not that good.
So, as far as, new releases from the last year time period, which do some of you recommend, and why?

I second The Descent as a suggestion. Very good movie, if only my copy wasn't scratched to all hell.

I've almost finished that one, I had to stop mid-way unfortunately. I'm really enjoying most of it, just the quick cuts annoy me. I don't understand that editing style and probably never will. Is it used to create a false sense of movement to make the action seem more "intense"? Is it meant to deliberately keep the viewer disoriented so they pay attention to every detail? I just don't get it...
Anyway, like I said, I AM really enjoying it despite my little gripe. You really should give it a go. You may like Fido too.
Check out this post, she lists some great movies from the past year and more are brought up in the discussion.

hmm that's a really good question. I like the quick cuts in an y movie, they put me on edge. In a few cases, on the big screen mostly, they have made me sick. Now that you mention it, the quick cuts in this one did make me notice every detail, and coupled with the dark it's really creepy.
Also, if you get a chance to watch the bonus features you'll see just how small the set was for this movie. The editing style made it seem like there was a lot more space to move around in, I think.

I'll suggest Sunshine. It's not horror, but if you liked Alien(s) it has a sort of similar atmosphere.

I'll have to check them out, is there anything about the showing they had in a cave? That sounded VERY cool. It's odd because in some movies the quick cuts border on looking like nothing more than a shaky camera but in The Descent they managed to keep that from happening.

I read a book called The Desent and it seems similar but i haven't seen the movie but i thought a lot of people here didn't like it. Defenetly see The HOST. Shaun of the Dead, have you seen the SAW movies? check out the Italian stuff too and Asian like The Eye and Tale of Two Sisters.

I liked Descent. It's the kind of movie I would recommend to others myself; are there any others that create this type of atmosphere? I mean, I go to the video store and see so many horror movies that I just decide against renting one.
Thanks for all of the suggestions.

I agree with you I thought it was bad.
