The other night I was talking to a friend of mine about movies and such. He's more in action movies, which I dont usually care for. Anyway, the conversation shifted to horror. We were talking about movies that get more hype than they deserve.
Not counting the new batch of movies that are almost the same movie with diffrent names. We were talking more about older movies. I was kinda susprised about some of his answers. But he's no a horror guy really. Got me to wondering what actual horror guys (and girls) think is overrated. Rember, it kind of goes without saying if your only talking about newer type movies and remakes.

And if were going to do this we may as well discuss underrated movies. I know theres an underrated movie thread already but Im sure theres movies that are jewels that arent mentioned on that list.

Id like to think 99% of the people here are mature enough to debate and not fight, so no flaming.

Hi!

Good morning!

The Countess here!

Yes. There are many underated horror movies around and I mean those going back aways, not the more current ones.

One of my choices is Val Lewton's "I Walked With A Zombie". It is atmospheric, intelligent and scary. A very well done "B" movie. It is a much better movie than it is given credit for.

There was an early (1958) Roger Corman film entitled Not Of This Earth. You never see it on TV and it has not been released on DVD ( unless pirated). It was a neat litlle sci fi film and very good.

Also one of my favorites is Kingdom Of The Spiders (1977) with William Shatner. It won the Best Sci Fi picture award in 1977. Again, not shown often and it took quite a while before it came out on DVD.

A TV movie starring Patty Duke Astin was entitled The Curse Of The Black Widow where she turns into an actual black widow spider. For a TV movie, it was very good. It was once available on VHS but has not been put on DVD. I have not seen it listed on any major TV channels. But I don't have a dish with 600 channels either!

Another movie that really is underrated is the 1935 film The Devil Doll starring Lionel Barrymore. This movie is rarely seen but It has been released on DVD ( finally). A great horror/sci fi movie, but never given the distribution like the Frankenstein and Dracula remakes and so forth.

I could go on and on but for now these are my choices.
