Yeah I know its a few years old, and I am not aobut to go searching for old threads on this, should they exist.

So.... what did everyone think of it. I sort of want an excuse to rip it to bloody bits with a giant rusty knife, but it had some redeeming qualities. I mean it did capture the visuals of feel of the game in a lot of places, and it was bloody sweet to see the monsters, especially Pyramid Head, in a movie and it was also cool to catch the game references only fans of the series would pick up on. The addition of "The Janitor", a monster deemed worthy of addition to a game was VERY welcome.

I mean, when a Silent Hill film was announced, I expected more a a film adaptation closer to the original Silent Hill, but then again, I always expect too much from Hollywood and adaptations. Still, the movie at least had the atmosphere, locations, and some characters from the first 2 games, so it wasn't a total loss.....

Buuut.... The intricate plot of the games was needlessly torqued, and in such a way that that was unnecessary. Not that it was really that lame, but it just didn't need to be done. Dahlia's cult (her in game evil cult), the townwide conspiracy, the white claudia, all of that gone, when they could have added so much more depth to the film. They could have also kept more of the creepy David Lynch surrealism of the games, and kept the sudden violence and decay the film did so well, and come out with a much more creepy film. So while I enjoyed the film, I feel it was only because I am such a fan of the games, that I liked seeing elements of them fleshed out on screen. Anyone here who never played the games to any extent: What did you think of the film?

I don't know much about the game, im more into Resident Evil but i loved how they captured the atmosphere from the game in this movie and it was a way better adaptation than Resident Evil.

I read somewhere a second movie would prolly be made, I hope it happens soon!

I actually enjoyed the film very much. It has the mood of the game (which I love and played 4 of them), the story is sufficiently solid and it has some priceless moments with my all time fav bad guy, Pyramid Head. Need to watch it again, by the way.

Agreed. its up there with the best game adaptations in my book. And for those who hated it, its stacks quite well against say "Doom"

I didn't like it, it pissed me off, but there is a copy here at my new flat and I'm thinking about giving it another run.

Second that. I'm a huge fan of the game, so I found it lacking, though respectful of the look and atmosphere.

Yeah, if I was not such a fan of wordiness I would put it this way..

I never played the games, but I did like the movie quite a bit. Then I found a fan-edit and loved it. The fan-edit took away all the scenes of the husband searching for Rose. Those scenes just ruined the pacing of the movie as far as I was concerned. Right when things would be getting really dark and disturbing we had to go back to Boromir and ruin the atmosphere. It also ended the movie with Rose and Sharon leaving Silent Hill. I preferred that ending because it leaves you wondering what really happened. The original ending is just too Hollywood for my liking.

I didn't like it too much.

Pyramidhead is a great concept and he looked great but there was way too much CGI.

Played the games. Love them for the atmosphere.

Thought the movie managed to capture a whole lot from the games but the atmosphere.

Nevertheless i enjoyed it a lot.

The plot seemed pretty similar to the third video game's story, the strange religious cult and the sacrificial demonic girl, etc. While I actually considered this the most addictive silent hill game, I kind of hated the actual story. Imagine my disappointment when I finally got to see the movie. I agree that the atmosphere was dead-on and the choreography was really good. BUT why was Pyramid Head so tall? In the game, he didn't look any taller than anyone else wearing a large metal thing on his head. And what was with that horrible long-drawn out scene where the mad cultists burned up that poor lesbian police woman? Do I detect some homophobia?;)

Hey! I hated Silent Hill 3 too! It is addicting, but it just not scary.

Maybe. Cybil is a little hotter in the game, but shes pretty butch in the movie. I do think they picked a good actress to play her though. I really hated her death scene.
