I got an early christmas present today, and it turned out to be a dog! I had a dog for about two years, but I had to let him go last May. I was saddened, but faced the facts. I've been mentioning about getting a new one every now and then, but didn't think I'd ever get one again, until I was living on my own in a few years (because I don't think you can have a dog in a college dorm). Well, I got one. It's a male bischone frise, and it's name is Casper. the reason I got a bischone is because my Dad couldn't stand how much my former dog, a cocker-spaniel, shed so much. Bischones don't shed at all. I'm so happy right now. Merry Christmas everybody!

It was my Mom's idea. She's been telling me that she was trying to talk my Dad into getting a dog, even though, as we now know, she already did. She was throwing around names and mentioned Casper, since he's a small white puffball. I liked it, and decided to name it that. Though she keeps calling him Jasper. What the hell? She's the one that came up with the name, and she can't even remember his name.

My dad had one of those...they're pretty funny little fellows, and if you stir/play with them and they start growling, they look like a Gremlin.
Not a bad animal for a small dog, pretty quiet by comparison to most their size as well. I hope the friendship brings something extra to your life.

You shouldve gotten a Lhasa Apso!

Congratulations. Dogs are cool pets. You will have lots of fun with him.
congrats -- though i should say that my dog is a kind that doesn't shed (wheaten terrier) and the problem is that his hair will get very matted without constant combing (and he's a very outdoors kind of dog - like his daddy/monkey) so we groom a LOT!

Oh, HOORAY! That's a wonderful Christmas present. :) Our apartment is too small for a dog... :( And the boyfriend is too allergic for a cat.
I DO, however, like living vicariously... Where are the pics?? :)

My husband is allergic to cats as well....or so he says....;) So we have two dogs; a terrier mix. Cheyenne and a Jack Russell named Rascal....:D
So obviously a dog lover here, congrats on the new pup Yellow Jacket, that really IS a great Christmas present! He sounds adorable.

I'm actually currently looking into the hairless catbreed, Sphinx, but they're incredibly high-maintenance and... Well... kinda creepy looking (though, admittedly that WOULD be kinda the point).
If not a cat, I would LOVE a Pug. Puggy puggy pug.

LOL....:p I've heard they are great cats though.
I love Pugs....I had a friend that had a couple and they were so sweet. We searched the SPCA for Cheyenne, and she is about the perfect dog. Rascal was given to us....and well, he's trouble as his name would imply. :p I love the little guy though. I was not too happy with the people that gave him to us though, he was NOT taken care of. Had a bad skin infection, and a few other problems. Glad we got him, they apparently were just going to let him die. And he's such a great, loving dog. People suck.

I have a friend that has one...you do have to make sure they are warm, but other than that, not so much high-maintenance as CAT-maintenance:D
Interesting fact: people are not allergic to cats but to the flakes that come off the shaft of their hair follicles:eek:

Yeah, damn dander... I was actually reading an article discussing how and WHY it is that people are less allergic to the Sphinx cats (because they still produce dander)... The only thing I can guess is that the Sphinx cats require regular bathing, so I'm guessing that that will strip the cats of the dander (I think, actually, if I bathed a normal cat every week, it wouldn't be so bad).
I am also fascinated that Sphinx cats need to be warm (I've already asked my mom to knit my future hairless cat a sweater, though she isn't that married to the idea... hahaha) AND they can get sunburns, too... So they aren't supposed to be outside in the summer, either.
The unfortunate part: They're expensive.
Though I've told myself for a couple of years... If I am at a place in my life where I can afford to spend thousands of dollars on a cat, then DAMN I am doing pretty well for myself.

That's the problem with adopting... People DO suck. Glad your puppies have a good home, now.

I've been having a lot of fun with Casper. He's getting adjusted to the area, and he's becoming more fiesty and playful. I have a picture of him on my phone, but I'm not sure if I can upload it onto my computer. We should get some pictures of him developed shortly.
puppy pictures!!!
