I Am Legend is the newest adaptation of Richard Matheson's novel of the same name. Will Smith plays the role of Robert Neville, a scientist who survived the Vampire Apocalypse (he is immune to the disease that broke out and apparently destroyed humanity ).

Haven't looked for any reviews as I have the habit of reading only the bare minimum when there is a film that I want to see.
Two of my favorite things... Post-apocalyptic struggle. And vampires.
I. Can't. Wait.

I never look at reviews. To me, it's just another person's opinion, and they rarely agree with mine.
I'm so excited for this to come out. Just took a look at the preview you posted - it looks awesome!

This is actually looking cooler and cooler as the days go on. I don't know about anyone else but I love all the epic action flicks that Will Smith has starred in. Including: I, Robot, Independence Day, Bad Boys, and now this.
Gonna be fun.

I'm glad you guys think so, too... I worry that a lot of people don't take him seriously, when, honestly, he's a versatile actor (from silly Fresh Prince to badass action) as well as just an intelligent, amicable guy in person.
Not to mention, the subject matter of this film is seriously up my ally... I'm a sucker for anything post apocalyptic, so it has that going for it already.

Will Smith is hands-down one of my favorite actors. Plus, it doesn't hurt that he's a "hometown guy" - I grew up in Philly, too. Not West Philly, mind you, but still.......

I like Will Smith, but I just don't see him in this movie. Not that I think he is a bad actor, but maybe because of all the action movies he has been in, I'm afraid of what this is going to turn into. I'm really hoping for a faithful adaptation of the story, because it is one of my favorite vampire stories. But I am keeping my expectations low, as usual, so I won't be disappointed. ;)

Both "Men In Black" and "Independance Day" are classics, but I hope this movie is a bit darker and adult. Has the rating been confirmed yet?
my prediction: this will suck and totally undermine the beauty of hte matheson story

Haven't read it yet... My mom's planning on getting it for my boyfriend for Christmas... And I plan on stealing it from him immediately thereafter.

Something tells me the best actor in the movie will be the dog.

Yeah me too...Night of the Commet, etc. I even liked the beginning of that silly Omega Man. But it wasn't Charleton Heston's fault that the screenplay was bad.

I actually haven't seen Night of the Comet yet... It's in my Netflix queue, though. :)
If you're into Post Apocalyptic fiction, I just read Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood. It was intelligent, well-written, and unique even in a fairly traditional theme. You might want to check it out.

The more I see the trailers of this film and the more blurbs I come across, the more I really want to see this.
I, too, love the post-apocalyptic genre. Although I prefer my apocalypse with zombies and not vampires, I am certainly open to a different take on it!
There is a certain personality type that Will Smith puts in to his characters that you see in things like Independence Day and I, Robot (and prior to that, I'm sure) that you see hints of in the trailers for this movie. I'm hoping that the "Aww, HELL no," gets put away for a slightly more adult dialogue like Sick said. If something like that really happened, you wouldn't expect the hero to be able to constantly quip one liners while dealing with that kind of tragedy and solitude. And movies made up of sound bites tend to really blow. :(
I've gotten so worked up about how cool it may be that my friends have gone out and bought the book to see why I think the story is so good. I'm really hoping to not let them down.
But then I think of War of the Worlds and I cry. Bitterly.

I'm curious to see this one. I'm a huge Will Smith fan. I think he's done some really good movies (Men in Black, Hitch, The Pursuit of Happyness). Sure, he's done some bad films (Men in Black II, Bad Boys II), but overall, his status is good. And I think, and I'm hoping, that I Am Legend will be another one of his good movies. Will Smith has come a long way since The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

This looks really fantastic. However the people who put together the previews to upcoming movies, have to shorten them. They insist on giving away too much before the movie even comes out. For example, the scene where Will Smith is in the bath and it is night, and you can hear creatures outside. Why not stop there instead of showing us what the creature looks like. I find it really disappointing when movies chose to do this. Anyone else here agree with what i'm talking about? The preview i saw had to have gone for 6-8 minutes at least. There were 2 parts it was a before, to the point where i didn't know if i was even watching a preview to a movie, then the aftermath, and Will Smith pops into the picture fighting god knows what.

I don't think the Omega Man was that bad. There are aspects of it that I like more than those of Last Man on Earth. In spite of the changes it did the spirit of I am Legend justice, and expanded on the themes by giving the monsters more vestiges of humanity. Last Man on Earth borders on being a zombie movie, while I am Legend brings up issues of lost humanity. This I am Legend doesn't look like it cares all that much about Matheson's themes.

Frankly, I thought the film was a drek. A brilliant drek but still..... I'm of the opinion that the character of Legend is one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable figures of film, and did we really need the "Fresh prince of Bell" Air playing that? Really? To contribute to the discussion started earlier, here's what I think the priest vampire should have looked like.

I saw this movie last night. Not a bad movie, good action and some decent scare scenes. It had little to do with the original novel, but I enjoyed it.

i thought the movie was good up until the last 30 or so minutes, then they just seemed to want to get it over and done with.
not sure why they felt they had to rush the story from then on.
