hostel was wicked, but i prefered hills have eyes remakes.cant wait to see saw4 bit dissapointed with 1 and 2 though. But overall love any thing with blood and gore in.Liked some of the old movies like exorcist and the burning, but still think horror is getting better since they have been spending more money on the shit.what do u think? :D

For the most part, I hate 'em all. I still can't fathom why they would touch some of these gems (The Wicker Man? Halloween?!), and they definately do not better them in any way.
As far as new horror, I've liked a few (The Descent, 1408, Slither), and hated most (Hostel, Saw).
The thing that modern horror is lacking (even in the films I gave that IO liked) is that nothing is subtle anymore. Movies like Rosemary's Baby, Psycho, Cat People, The Shining, etc. were so damn creepy because we were wathing it with one eye...there was always that element of unknown suspense. Not shock- there is a difference.

Even though movie studios are spending a lot of money on their horror movies, the quailty of the VAST MAJORITY of them are repulsively terrible and laughable. Special effects mean nothing if your story lacks a soul or brains.

Personally I think that the great horror movie genre apexed in the 1970s..

70's is surely the peak as far as I am concerned, but there is still some gems coming out, though they mostly are throw backs to the 70's...

I think Horror has gotten majorly fucked in the ass since it has been given more money due to this bullshit remake scheme... let it be and it will be real again...

Kill CGI in Horror!

I loved the first Hostel movie. I though it was gorey goodness and had characters I actually cared about. But, the second one sucked in my opinion. For starters, I couldn't wait to see every last one of them die. They were annnoying as hell. Now, I'm not saying that all the characters need to be likeable (make a hateable one or two). But, at least let one or two of them be worth cheering for. Next, the killers in this one sucked. The first one let the murderers on the down low until the end. This one focused on them, and they all seemed like rich assholes to me. Shouldn't these guys be the ones being tortured? Lastly, it was all over the place. Kids were brought in as soldiers and parties were going on nonstop. Once you establish the torturing, stick with it damnit. Now, there were some cool things in this movie. Okay, just one. That was the gore. This wasn't was as gorey, if not more, than the original. That was a nice, much needed touch. But that didn't save this second one from being pure dreck.

One thing I hate about torture movies-Girls being tortured. Not that I think it's wrong or anything, it's just fucking annoying. They ALWAYS scream, and not just when they're being tortured, from when they wake up in the room to when they die.

I agree with you. That's another reason I hated Hostel: Part II. The first one had guys being tortured. So, they didn't scream until the torture began.

I'm pretty sure the first guy to be tortured screamed like a little girl the whole time. But I see where you're coming from.

Don't worry, I remember that vividly. He was the only guy I couldn't stand. Besides him though, they didn't cry their damn asses off (to my recolation).

And on the screaming thing... It's nice to see you are all so fucking hard that you wouldn't think about shitting yourself until the precise moment the tendons to your ankles are slit. I personally would have shat the moment I was tied to a chair surrounded by grot. On a side note, female screaming can't ruin a film, it's a horror film staple. Tell me the last 30 mins of texas chainsaw would have been half as effective without that whinging bitch Marilyn Burns squealing like a poof in a dildo factory. I think not.

I'm one to admit defeat, and I I'll admit it, you've got strong facts backing up your cause. Though I will state that the women screaming in hostel II wasn't the problem that I had with the film. I just hated those women. Plain and simple. But, like I mentioned, I'm admitting defeat right now. Damn your good! I respect you. Please don't leave like most new members do.
