firstly ...planet terror...

awesome !!!!!!!!!!! three thumbs up !!!!!!!!!!

secondly....death proof....

its a chick flick!!!!! talk about an excess of talking scenes

take out 90 percent of the yapping scenes and you'd only have
10 percent of the movie left !!!!!!

tell me.....if he ended the movie with three MEN celebrating bashing
the absolute suitcase out of a WOMAN ......how would that go down ?

How is it a chick flick? I don't think the chicks who see chick flicks watch chich flicks about chicks talking about flicks and lapdances instead of chick flick things normally spoken of in chick flicks.

ok ....if i must !!!!!!!!!!

death proof......yap yap yap yap and a little bit more yap !

planet terror......as with "yap proof", these movies were contrived to re-create the feel , look , and story-lines of the flicks shown at the notorious movie houses littering the 42nd district during the 1970's and 80's known collectively as "grindhouse"

replete with quasi-audience sound effects and artificially induced film-stock dust and scatches [known as 'artefacts"] director robert rodrigues pulls out all stops in giving us a high octane ride into zombie based fantasy

the script whilst functional gives way to "set-piece " direction making the film seem more like a series of episodes rather than a fluid singualar experience ..... it may be no mere coincidence that this style of horror was pioneered by the italian directors argento and fulci , major players of the grindhouse movement

the original grindhouse movies had one aim in mind ; entertainment and to that end , planet terror succeeds

is that "rock" in the "geological"sence or as in the "handsomely well-built action hero "?
im betting on the latter !

Interesting point about the final bashing in Death Proof - were the genders reversed in a similar scene, we might have had a real throwback to hardcore exploitation.

Of course then it would be charged with leaving a lasting impression of misogyny, and no studio would touch it - retro or not.

yes....death proof is way too much "tarantino" and not enough "exploitation"

Tarantino is amazing and Death Proof was just that. Tarantino is good at writing dialogue that's what he does. The car chases were great and the death scenes were awesome. If Death Proof were to be played over Planet Terror then everyone would have loved it.

i find "tarantino dialogue"to be boarder-line funny observational humour and for the most part good and applicable.....but during death proof i kept on getting the feeling i was listening to "george costanza"

Actually, I thought Death Proof's dialogue sucked as well. It was amatuerish at best. His writing only works with truly talented actors, and the girls in Death Proof were not truly talented (although it doesn't help that this was far and away Tarantino's worst writing to date). Hence, the conversations were boring, gossipy messes.

I think a lot of people are quick to defend Quentin because he has made so many great dialogue pieces in the past, but if this were a first attempt, no one would take it seriously.
