Guillermo “El Cabron” del Toro has a fascination with the classic monsters from Universal Studios, now that his baby Hellboy is at Universal, are there plans abrewin’ to bring the Creature, Frankenstein, Wolfman, Dracula and Mummy to the world of B.P.R.D.?

Del Toro has always wanted Hellboy to play in the same sand box with the Universal Monsters. Last night at the premiere of 30 Days of Night, the producer and publisher of Hellboy and the owner of Dark Horse Entertainment, Mike Richardson, had exciting updates.

First, Mike tells what we can expect from Hellboy 2. “You won’t believe what that movie looks like, it’s a whole different scale…you won’t believe what you are seeing, greatest sets that we’ve ever seen, it’s just huge.”

So have Dark Horse and Universal started exploring the possibilities of bringing the world of Hellboy/B.P.R.D and Universal Monsters together in one film?

It shouldn’t come to such a surprise that Universal would want to try to reboot the classic monsters. Mike answered about the possibility, “There might be something going on but I don’t think that I can talk about it…there might be something that is being discussed.”

While Mike is not able to talk about it, it’s quite obvious that this isn‘t just mere fanboy rumor mongering.

He also confirmed that a feature film for B.P.R.D is moving forward but these plans will depend on the success of Hellboy next year.

Can you imagine Abe Sapien and the Creature from the Black Lagoon going mano a mano? Or Hellboy vs. Dracula vs. The Wolfman vs. Frankenstein?

I’m sold, bring me my monsters!

I saw this the other day and I'm so very excited. So much so that I ordered a whole whack of BPRD and Hell Boy comics for my boyfriend to get caught up.

The latest piece of production art from Universal's forthcoming Hellboy II: The Golden Army has debuted online. This new artwork -- a theater lobby display offering fans their first look at Doug Jones reprising his role as "Abe Sapien" in the highly anticipated sequel -- is now available at the official film site under "Images."

With a signature blend of action, humor and character-based spectacle, the saga of the world's toughest, kitten-loving hero from Hell continues to unfold in Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Bigger muscle, badder weapons and more ungodly villains arrive in an epic vision of imagination from Oscar-nominated director Guillermo del Toro.

After an ancient truce existing between humankind and the invisible realm of the fantastic is broken, hell on Earth is ready to erupt. A ruthless leader who treads the world above and the one below defies his bloodline and awakens an unstoppable army of creatures. Now, it's up to the planet's toughest, roughest superhero to battle the merciless dictator and his marauders. He may be red. He may be horned. He may be misunderstood. But when you need the job done right, it's time to call in Hellboy (Ron Perlman).

Along with his expanding team in the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense — pyrokinetic girlfriend Liz Sherman (Selma Blair), aquatic empath Abe Sapien (Doug Jones) and protoplasmic mystic Johann Kraus — the BPRD will travel between the surface strata and the unseen magical one, where creatures of fantasy become corporeal. And Hellboy, a creature of two worlds who's accepted by neither, must choose between the life he knows and an unknown destiny that beckons him.

Be sure to check out all of the new concept art from the film at the official film site - http://www.hellboymovie.com.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army opens July 11, 2008.

I am so excited to see this movie. I loved the first one, and I thought it was very underrated. With Guillermo Del Toro directing, how can you go wrong? He's directed so many great films, including Hellboy, Pan's Labryinth, Blade II, Chronos, and Mimic. And possibly bringing back the universal monsters in the sequel adds more power to the punch. I can't wait. Summer 2008 is going to kick ass!
