I got them once.I was going to buy a new one then microsoft starting fixing them for free.So just call them up and they will send you a new one in a few weeks even if you don't have a warranty.

Well, the red rings don't mean that its completly broke, try restarting it or turning it off for a while then start it again. THOUGH if you get a green screen and the red rings then you got a problem.

Another one huh?
I understand it's happened so much that they're offering a 3-year warranty on top of the one-year, just for that problem specifically.

Either way, both of the "big 2" are releasing new versions of their current consoles (I should have the official scoop on what's going on with sony by tuesday, they had an "event"), hopefully the problems with both of 'em will be sorted out.

If people would take proper care of their equipment they wouldn't have to moan about microsoft or sony. They run hot, don't put them on the floor or surrounded by clothes. Same goes for the power supply which I'm sure a lot of people just toss behind the tv where it gets the hottest...

If you have the 3 red lights on your xbox call microsoft, it's under a 3 year warranty.

Your'e talking out of your ass. I had two 360's both got red rings. The 3rd replacement they sent me i sold on ebay. My buyer contacts me two days later & says hes got the rings of death. This problem is well publicised & M$ know all about it. Industry estimates a 33% or higher failure rate with 2nd generation 360's. Out of 11 of my mates 7 of them have had problems i suppose all of them hav'nt taken care of their consoles?

Yeah, from what I've heard it's a manufacturing fault/kink

Had one in the beginning, returned it to BestBuy but kept my hard drive. Lost nothing at all. I don't think there's been a system since the Dreamcast that I haven't had problems with as an early adopter. The PS2, XBox, and 360 have given me problems while the PS3 has troubled my brother. Hmmmm, actually, nobody I know with a Wii has had a problem. SOME people do cause the problem themselves by placing the power supply on carpet or almost encasing their 360 in their entertainment center but trust me, it's not all the users fault. I had my first 360 on top of my entertainment center in open air with the power supply on its own shelf with a small fan blowing on it. Still got the RRoD.

Its not about safe-keeping as much as it is about product glitches. Many people round the world keep the 360 pretty close to their hearts since they are avid game-lovers PLUS they pay a big part of their savings to get one.

I had the Red Rings the very next day I got the 360. And it was plugged into my TV with its own wooden shelf, open aired, and had its own socket. The buyer I got it from said there were similar complaints and to return it back, and if I would like it replaced. I had no choice, so I replaced it and promptly sold it to an acquaintance at the office.

Later on Microsoft themselves admitted to the glitches in the 360 and extended the warranty too. Says something? I think they were too hasty on launching it and grabbing market share from Sony's PS3, and didnt iron out the flaws (like another flaw of the discs getting scratched from the rotating pindle inside)...the least they should have done is upgrade the console (which they are soon).

I am pretty touchy when it comes to stuff like this. Figured if it died on me the very next day then I ll continue to have problems with it...so ergo it goes! Same happened with my Gameboy a few years back...and I didnt get another.

My PS3 is great though. Been with me since last Christmas (was presented as a gift) and is going great guns so far. So between my PS3, PS2, PS, XBox, Wii, Dreamcast and the rest...I am pretty happy.

Despare.... nice freakin' sig...... where did you find that?

Also, I've decided that I'm going to wait to buy a 360 until this problem is resolved. I knew from the start that there would be some bug in it, but I never expected it would take this long to fix. So im still waiting... and it seems I will be for a while. And now that Halo3 is out, im getting pissed that they haven't fixed it by now.

Now I haven't heard any problems for the PS3, could somebody tell me those, if any? I want to buy the PS3 for the new Metal Geat Solid game.

IF you smoke...Did or do you smoke near your XBOX? Its a silly question i know but people who do get an increased amount of crap around cooling fans , hence high temps.

But iam only going by my experiance with fixing PCs. It could be different with consoles ..........but i doubt it.

After nine months [and after warranty] I got the dreaded red rings of death. It was so close to Christmas and I already bought a couple of games for my son, I went out and picked up another one....a week later they extended the warranty...I sent it in and got it back in a week [no charge ]....now I have two.

Stopped smoking years ago. Microsoft just had some glitches but almost all of the systems have dead products at launch. I did know a few people who killed theirs by keeping the powersupply on carpet or worse... directly behind the system heh.

PS Psycho: I don't remember where I got my sig.

I bought my 360 on launch day, never had any problems with it until June of this year. My warrenty was up, so I tore it apart to fix it myself, fixed it, a week later they extend everyones warrenty, and then it breaks again. I just recently bought a new 360, about 2 weeks ago. To your question no I didn't have to buy live again. Just make sure that you keep your hard drive, and your profiles, and live profiles will be on it.

You have to take into account the users too. While somebody may own a 360 for years and have no problems other may not treat it... correctly.

Best you can do is try selling it to a Gamstop telling them you're not sure if it works well or not, get the store credit and pick up a refurbished system.

I'm telling you man just call them up and get a new one for free. Now that they gave a free extended warranty all you do is call them up and say you have the three red rings, they'll send you a box to mail it in, send it off and in a couple of weeks you'll have a new 360 at no charge.

From what I understand , the problem is with a V-chip. My sons X-Box 360 just experienced its first "red ring of death" so we went on line in search of a solution and found videos about "the towel trick". You turn on the 360 minus video and ethernet cable, wrap it in several towels and let it run for about 20 minutes. After 20 or so minutes unwrap, turn off and let it cool down for 15 minutes. His worked after 2 tries. I know it's a temporary fix but at least he should be able to play it until the shipping box arrives from X-Box. Some people are reporting a 1 week turn-around time on repairs. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
