Horror.Com Oscars

If there is enough interest, I was proposing to do an Oscars style thread. This would be similar to the ‘real’ Oscars but would concentrate on the horror genre.

A closing date of 29th of October is suggested, to give everyone a fair chance of voting, for a proposed Halloween Ceremony.

Please do NOT Vote Now - Will wait to see if there's enough interest before undertaking this project.

These are some categories I have thought of :

Best Horror Film
Worst Horror Film

Best Actor
Worst Actor

Best Actress
Worst Actress

Best Director
Worst Director

Best Producer

Best Studio (Production)

Which remake should NEVER be made?

If anyone can think of some other categories, feel free to suggest them.

I'm interested. Sounds good to me. At least, it won't be bad. Similar to the tournaments but all in one. Get's my vote. ;)

Im British, It will be!

Unfortunately because the majority of members are from the 'west' awards/shows seem to follow that pattern; however I am British and even though the likes of the HDC Awards and Gore's radio show are good I am not about to stay upto 3 or 4 am. I do work during the day.

That is why 'I' suggested the oscars so that us 'foreigners' would be able to attend. (most of us wide awake as well) The others can view the highlights, or become imsomniacs as we have to do.

*Maybe a British or European Horror.Com is in order!*

ferretchucker

but then there'd only be about 4 members. Do it about 7:00pm so it's about lunch time for the others.

1. Oooh the posh bit ......... well sort of.
2. They are at beginning of the thread, though more can be added.
3. Either this year or any, making it the "the Best Horror of all time" depends on what 'the people' want.

@ ferret I was going to put it on Halloween but it is a 'school day' so am prepared to move it to either the Friday/Saturday before or after

I'm guessing most people would be home from school/work by 6 or 7 (US est) that would make it 11 / 12 over here.

The reason why you get prices that are 0.99 cents or pence is simply a matter of security. It means that the sales assistant has to open the cash register, which is recorded, so if there are any discrepancies in the cash takings for that day, the 'management' can deal with it.

But it is a bummer.

Let me see you don't like: fat people, young (single) mothers, MacDonalds, immigrants and the law system.

I see a bright light in Politics in the future.

You should also bring back hanging.

Welcome aboard, one and all.

Im waiting for a few more:

The Committee will consist of at least 13 members - all will have a chance at presenting one or more categories during the ceremony.

Regarding the admin - this will be basic, perhaps may not even be needed but could well decide the outcome of the awards - tied votes for example.

From the '13' You may now understand the "statistical/administrative nightmare" - trying to keep everybody informed, making sure everyone is able to participate - time, other commitments etc.

Membership of the committee is purely voluntary, just a way to allow for greater participation of interest.

If you do not wish to take part in this area, that is not a problem, not like I would 'accidently' forget to count your votes or anything.

Cheers for the first part.

I was meaning a film that hasn't been remade yet.

Im trying not to give examples but Im sure you can think of some yourself, where often in some threads the very mention of "there's going to be a remake of *********** makes you want to scream/ shout or just plain switch off.

For the second part that'll be in the Worst Remake category.

Hope this clarifies it a bit more.

If anyone else has queries regarding the meanings of the categories, just give us a shout and I'll try and clear it up.

Hello folks

To the members who have replied or are considering, "thank you" :)

Im just waiting for the rest before I announce the Judging/Presentation team;

With a bit of luck the voting will start tomorrow and I'll will try and work out the best way for the team to be able to work together. I know we are spread far and wide and undoubtedly the time difference and other more important issues will play a part, not only to the administerial side but the actual awards night also.

-o-

The reason why there's about 3 weeks voting time is for the following:

1. I personally think that there are some pretty hard categories here - thinking time.
2. Im hoping for a decent number for replies, for a more accurate result.

Sorry if it's getting on people's nerves, mentioning the "oscars", it's just a bit of fun, trying something different, allowing everyone to take part, if they wish.

Once again to all the people who have said they wish to take part - Thank You. :)

I'm working on the list for the "party" as of right now, it's a good mix of members - new/old, young and perhaps not so young (I tried to put that as safely as I could ;) ) and guys & girls.

Not telling you who they are its a surprise

I am organising a few things at the mo' but will get the list up (hopefully) sometime today. (Seem to remember to saying that somewhere before)

Hi Guys

I thought I would make a view points:

I will definitely put a list up tomorrow 1st October that will show all the members involved in the Judging and/or presenting of the awards.
I will also inform the forum that the vote is now open and the methods used.

Each member of the forum can "and is positively encouraged to" vote on the categories.
One vote/suggestion per category is preferred, it just makes it easier to calculate.

The majority of categories, with the exception of Best Horror Film of the Year and Worst Horror Film of the Year relate to the "Best/Worst ??????? Ever.
The Lifetime Achievement Awards are (hopefully) self-explanatory.

Saturday, the 20th of October is suggested as a closing date for the votes, dependant on the number of votes received.

The awards will be held on Saturday, 27th of October (time: tba)

I've studied Law, does it show?

There was a query made earlier that concerns the categories: "Is it OK to send in only some answers, if you don't have answers for them all?

Answer is a definite Yes, I would rather have one or two, than none.

Another query - Are the categories just for this year?
Ans: No, I think I said this to a couple of people the title Oscars is very misleading, it's just a name. All the categories except for Best/Worst Film of the Year (2007) relate to the Best/worst Ever, ie Best/worst ever Horror Film, Best/worst ever director of a Horror Film, Best /worst Ever producer etc.

As Promised The Unlucky 13 - Admin/Presentation Party:

Dante's Inferno
Despare

Best Global Horror:, consisting of

US
Canada
UK
Europe
Asia
Australia
New Zealand

I am filling in my nominees right now...and I have one doubt regarding the above category.

What about Italian horror? Doesnt it deserve an award of its own?

tic
10-05-2007, 09:12 AM
Interesting point. - I was assuming people would have put that in the Europe section.

The reason I broke up the others was:

At first I was thinking of simply the US, Europe, Asia and Australia, this then became US & Canada as one section, Europe, Asia and Australia.

From the above I couldn't think of a Canadian Horror Film, so presumed that the US votes would swamp this category as its probably the biggest, ie Canada wouldn't have a mention. The same goes for Australia & New Zealand.

This was also why I added the UK as well as Europe, as I think British Horror was worthy of its own section. I can only think of a small number of European Films, two are I think Russian, two or three Spanish, a couple of French ones and the rest all are Italian.

An Italian Horror film against a British one just doesn't bare thinking about, but it is a very fair point and is making me wonder right now. - thanx :(

Who knows perhaps next year "ha ....... ha........ ha ........ not".

Does that answer your query or have I went off on a completely different direction?

_____V_____

tic

Im making up the rules as I go on, haven't you been paying attention? :p

The vote closes on midnight of the 20th GMT. I should have the full list of all nominees made up early 21st, which I'll post very soon after, then the judges can get stuck in. 21st Oct.

(Strictly speaking I could announce them now, (I would be very surprised if any new nominees make it, but who knows?)) but will wait until Saturday, so that anyone who has said they'll send in nominees has the option to do so.

re: the vote. I think I said on another post that the hints/info I'm giving, are soley on the total number of votes from all the forum. For the Judges, as far as they are concerned even if one nominee was voted 10 times, they will all start afresh.

I'm the only one who has the total figures and that's the way they'll stay. I may show them after the judges votes have been taken - just to see if the general consensus is the same as the the total forum.

Like I said, I'm making the rules up as I go, so we'll see.

After the Judges have voted., ONLY the Judges will know who's won the categories and then the order which they will take place, as the awards will not run in the same order as in the category list.

Then the list of presenters will be made, *together with who's doing what awards.

*Not all Judges wish to present an award.

Still haven't decided whether the categories should be split ie if you get the best horror, will you also get the worst horror? Or is every category separate, just going by that I can see some difficulties, it would mean you may have to wait to do another category, which is ok if they are close together, but what if one is at the beginning and the other is the last one? Will you still be available?

All the anwers please in a SAE to haven't got a clue c/o Horror.Com. ;)

*I mean "you" as whoever is reading this post.*

There's a couple of problems with your suggestion:

1.The final award - I already have someone in mind for that and it wasn't you.

2.How long would "later" be, I know the real oscars goes on all night , but this is a virtual awards ceremony and shouldn't take that long - if it starts at 11:00, it should be finished by 12 or 01:00 at the latest. This will also mean that every presenter needs to be ready for that space of time. Bearing that in mind, please remember that the Saturday before Halloween is, I'm assuming quite a busy period, *with parties, last minute shopping/preparations for Halloween night. Not everybody will be able or even want to wait that long.
Some may not be available to attend in the first place.

* Im refering to our American friends here - time difference

3. If you look at the list of judges, I did say that the names could change, re: presenters. You will also read, that I did say not all members of the Judging party wish to present. Until the actual voting takes place AND the list of presenters is finalised, things will remain the same as they are.

4. I appreciate your enthusiasm, about taking part, but a line has to be drawn somewhere, ie. The awards will be on Saturday, the 27th. Not sooner nor later. If you wish to run this event by all means do so, saves me the bother.

RE Number 2 & 3
It would be helpful if the members who wish to present an award/or are available to do so, could let me and the other members of the presentation party know please - in this thread if you wish. So we'll all know what the score is. thnx

That's another time in my life where I can stare at our friend Eliza.

"Our Friend"?

She's my "escort" for the Oscars. I'm on a promise, the dance is just a taster, for whats to follow.

erh ... You have AIM don't you? I've got that as well, that maybe a possible solution. Can't see why both can't be used. I can always pass on your vote/queries to those who only have MSN.

And so, Tic wrote down 10 commandments in pixels and sent them via e-mail to disease, who carried his laptop downstairs, went on webcam and declared earth follow these rules, but they did not, and so disease got so angry, he smashed his laptop.

Looks like the big fight is still on then.

What do prefer:

1) A hardcore match
2) A hell in the cell match
3) A table match
4) All of the above (over a crocodile, infested, pool of dead cows)

Just what I was thinking :(

Oh well, looks like one of the big categories is now well and truly ownerless, ie no presenter.

I thought of ____V____ simply because of all the work he's put in, to other games/events.

So a revised presenter list is definitely on the cards.

If only the timing could be re-scheduled to the morning shift...i.e., morning for us, day/noon time for you folks in the UK.

It could fit the bill for everybody.

I've certainly no problem with a change in time, I'll try and get in touch with everyone and see if its ok with them.

The only problem I can see is it would mean being early for the people in the US, the time difference. If it was put on earlier say 12 noon or 1pm GMT, that would make it 7:00 - 8 am est. If people can work with this re-scheduled time then its OK with me.

How about 2-3 PM GMT in the afternoon...that would be 9-10 AM EST, 6-7 AM PST?

I dunno, tic...we would have to accomodate the majority here. Dont shift the timings just for me.

See what the others have to say about this.

One is pretty obvious if you think about it, while the other may work depending on peoples boredom threshold

To all who sent messages - got them thnx.

Im dealing with them now.

There's still a couple of hours to go till the voting closes, so I'll keep it open until then.

From the replies to the categories, there is a good mix of nominees, apart from a pretty obvious one, which I think we all know who has won (or should that be lost) the award, but there's always a chance of a shock!

To all who have replied, once again Thanx.

ALL Nominees, and there's still more! It does get slightly better though - Thank God!

If it was only the ones with two or more votes then there would only be 1 or 2 nominees per category. Why make it easy?

* and some didn't have a clear winner*, by that I mean 1 or 2 more than any other nominees.
