This is getting ridiculous:

EXCL: Screen Gems De-Fangs Fright Night?
Source: Ryan Rotten
September 18, 2007

"You have to have FAITH for that to work...Misssster Vinccccent, remember?" spits vampire Jerry Dandrige in the face of a holy cross held by Peter Vincent in Tom Holland's Fright Night. And, for this rabid "Night" fan, faith is something I've held onto during these dark days of Hollywood remakes. Faith that the Fright Night property would go untouched. Un-"remade."

Screw that.

ShockTillYouDrop.com discovered Sony's Screen Gems is sifting through Hollywood's supply of writers for a Fright Night redo. But this one, from the sounds of it, is "in name only." A sundry of sources tell us executive producer Scott Strauss who may or may not still be attached and who recently shepherded Breach, starring Ryan Phillippe, and executive produced Robert Englund's Killer Pad, wants to take Fright Night in a different direction. One involving an amusement park in some way.

Our immediate thought is "They're remaking Tobe Hooper's Funhouse and calling it Fright Night." We haven't heard a peep yet regarding how Gems is coming along with the pitch process, but we'll keep you in the loop!

You can't remake "Fright night". That movie was close to being a perfect horror comedy.

but they can go ahead and remake the sequal. I won't mind that..

Well, I am sure that who ever is in charge is reading this now, and thinking....."well, since ANGRA thinks its a bad idea........we're putting a stop to this pronto " ;)

Seriously, its a bad idea, tired of the remakes, etc, etc..... its just never going to end. They are going to be remaking films that are a year old before its over with.....and we'll be bombarded with remakes of remakes....

Another remake in the works..how original:

Mad Men's Noxon Penning Fright Night
Source:The Hollywood Reporter
November 12, 2009

"Mad Men" writer/producer Marti Noxon has been hired to write the script for DreamWorks Studios' redo of the 1985 horror comedy Fright Night.

Before her work on AMC's "Mad Men," Noxon was a writer/producer on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel."

In the 1985 original, written and directed by Tom Holland, was a horror comedy about a teenager who discovers that his neighbors are vampires. The updated version will keep the comedy-horror tone while modernizing the effects.

stupid.....it's the NON-CGI effects that gave this movie its charm.

that and two great performances from RODDY McDowall and Stephen Geoffreys....actually Chris Sarandon did a bang up job as well.

Can't really see this one working. For all its faults, Fright Night had a certain charm and quality about it that I can't see being replicated. Take that away and you're left with a fairly mediocre vampire movie, which is probably all the remake will end up being.

Colin Farrell to try on Chris Sarandon's fangs?

Source: http://www.empireonline.com/news/feed.asp?NID=27841

Last month, when we talked about Anton Yelchin nabbing the lead in the Fright Night remake, we mentioned that the filmmakers really needed someone charismatic to play his vampire neighbour, Jerry. Would you believe they scored Colin Farrell?

It’s true: after a largely indie run in films about guilt in recent years, Farrell is now diving back into studio work according to Deadline. He’ll play the charming, scheming bloodsucker who moves in next door to horror fanatic Charley Brewster (Yelchin).

While Charley tries to warn those around him that Jerry’s really a threat, no one believes him. And then the vampire starts to put the moves on Charley’s mother (Toni Collette).

Craig Gillespie’s directing the Marti Noxon-scripted redo of the cult 1985 horror comedy drama.

Once Farrell has tapped that vein, he’ll move on to King Of Kong director Seth Gordon’s new comedy Horrible Bosses, which sees three friends (including Paul Rudd) aiming to murder the awful men who stand in the way of their happiness.

Tennant and Mintz-Plasse to Star in Fright Night
Source: Heat Vision
June 9, 2010

David Tennant ("Doctor Who") and Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Kick-Ass, Superbad) are joining the cast of DreamWorks remake Fright Night, to be directed by Craig Gillespie.

They will star opposite Anton Yelchin as Charlie, a teen convinced that his new neighbor (Colin Farrell) is a vampire. Toni Collette will play the teen's disbelieving mom, who falls under the vampire’s spell.

Tennant will play Peter Vincent, a character who in the original movie was played by Roddy McDowall as the host of a late-night horror show. In the remake, he’s a Las Vegas magician whose show revolves around horror-movie imagery. Vincent claims to be a vampire expert, but when the teen turns to him for assistance, he’s less than helpful.

Mintz-Plasse is playing Evil Ed, Yelchin's friend who feels slighted that Charlie has left his nerdy past behind and thus joins the vampire's coven.

. The updated version will keep the comedy-horror tone while modernizing the effects.

Thats the thing. The original was so well done. It didn't need Great or modern special effects.

Well Fight Night is a good title so if all they are doing is making another movie with that name that is fine with me. But if they are actually remaking Fright Night and doing what it sounds in the first post as they will be doing and just making it more PK then I do not really see why they bother, it is unlikely to be popular with anyone. If they want to make a PK vampire film why not just write a new concept and make a whole new movie?
