Any one seen any flicks where they take genre conventions and destroy them?
~Possible spoilers~
For example: In Black Christmas the first character killed is the virgin. And in The Blob they graphically depict the death of a child. Also, in Psycho, the main character is killed in the middle of the movie.

what? you cant kill the virgin first, the virgin never dies! how did that start anyways? although i never believed it, but its funny in movies like scary movie 1 & 2!! but in a sence its a good thing because whats the point of being a good director if you never challange the rules or make up your own? i like directors who arent afraid to question authority(so to speak)!!!! :D

Yeah, the first time I saw Black Christmas I was really thrown for a loop. Didn't expect them to kill the virgin first. And the heroine of the film was pregnant!! Bob Clark really surprised me...for the good.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasnt Fri the 13th the first movie to have the serial killer be female? Maybe it wasnt, but it was the first thing that popped in my head. I know the first time I saw it I thought that it was cool the killer was the mother and then I remember thinking well who the hell else would it have been.

Janet getting killed at the end of the first act of Psycho is a big wowzer; and like Ritualistic, I thought the whole grabber of Scream had to be a goofy dream or film-within-a-film sequence. The end of Pranks/Dorm That Dripped Blood (horrible movie, though) is pretty shocking when the Final Girl is killed. You just can't kill off the Final Girl!!!!!!!

Good one. Just wondering if anyone knew that Raimi produced this one under the name "Master Cylinder." Also, Bruce Campbell does alot of the male voiceovers in this one.

Just like Friday 2. I actually hate it when they do that though...especially when they do it to Rachel Carruthers.:(

how bout Village of the Damned? ive only seen the remake, but the original had thesame premise of KIDS BECOMING the monsters...wouldnt that have been a rulebreaker when the original one first came out?

I've seen too many horror movies...I'm beginning to mix them up and forget their names...I think it was one of the Witchcraft or Witchery movies where the main guy was helping, protecting and defending the girl throughout the entire movie, she was a witch and in the end, at the VERY end, after he stops people from sacrificing her, and you think it's over...She kills him...I was pretty shocked by that one

Spellbinder--Awesome movie. "The good guy always wins." What a great rule to break.
