With the load of action movies that have been coming out recently, (thank god) this one looks the best. hopefully its damn gritty with a lot of vengeance. it looks to be that way.
thoughts?

It's basically Death Wish, or many other revenge movie plots.
Still, I do like a good revenge movie. :D

I believe she means the plot to "Shoot Em Up".
which is
Mr. Smith (Clive Owen) is at the wrong place at the wrong time and discovers a pregnant prostitute who is about to give birth while being gunned down by unknown henchmen. After saving the baby and seeking the help of another prostitute named DQ (Monica Bellucci), Mr. Hertz (Paul Giamatti) finds his dead henchmen and tries to get back the child from Mr. Smith by any means necessary.

Lol. I'm not that desperate :p
I once had a woman approach me where I live asking if I wanted a blowjob - her face was covered in herpes. I was like..."As tempting as that sounds, I think I'll give it a miss tonight".

Watched it earlier tonight...and I walked out with a smile of complete satisfaction on my face.
Yes it is a throwback to the 70s, and Kevin Bacon was never better in any other movie. The script is solid (although it could have been a bit more pacy)...and with the stellar direction, Death Sentence stays in your psyche. Most of the action scenes will punch the wind out of your stomach!
My recommendation. Go watch it.:D

It's basically Death Wish, or many other revenge movie plots.
That's what I though too...and then I saw that it was written by the guy who wrote Death Wish. Suddenly, it all made sense...
Maybe they figure that this generation wouldn't remember the original or something. :)

i really can't bash the movie b/c i haven't seen it, but come on!!! another hollywood romanticized/justified violent revenge movie?! i'm sure it has its moments, but... when i saw the trailer for that and jodie foster's similar movie i wanted to pee on the projector.
sorry for the rant, just my take on it. i'll have to bring myself to watch it when it comes out on dvd.

If you could add Tom Cruise and Rene Zelweger to the heap, I'd nominate it for an oscar.
