Round 1: Match 1
Freddy Krueger vs. Jason Vorhees
Movie: Freddy vs. Jason
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szL7rjMvKn0
Not the greatest as far as fights go, and the movie wasn't even as good as some Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm St. movies. But they did exactly what (IMO) they should have done with this fight. Freddy out-thinking and being quicker than the lumbering strength-based Jason. And the weapon swap at the end shows more cleverness than I would have given the movie credit for. Plus, I felt required to have some horror representation in the tournament.
VS
Daniel vs. Johnny
Movie: The Karate Kid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NfkH3Q4JOQ
Again, not the greatest fight, even of its kind, but the lack of fancy technical finess is made up for by emotional investment. It's like the final fight in Rocky, but it's a lot better a fight than the Rocky fights where the punches obviously never made contact. Also made famous the oft-overused Crane Pose.

Charlie Yu Tao vs Yuen Tak/Yu Ching-Chuen vs Yu Yung-Sheng
Movie: My Young Auntie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqn5DQ9Jhzk
The goofy Kung Fu equivalent of "my dad could beat up your dad." The silly bragging between Tao and Tak is funny, although I do think that on occasion the fight just looks like they're doing really quick poses. Other than that, a very good climactic fight.
VS
Kham vs. Everybody in his way
Movie: The Protector
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K06wDn3XsZE
Tony Jaa beats the everloving fuck out of people in a big elaborate 4 minute tracking shot. The way he fights his way up the big winding staircase reminds me of similar levels in video games, which gets the scene points from me because I like those games. There's some stuff that makes you go "bah, they did that with the editing" until you remember that, no, there is no editing.

Zhang vs. Yeoh
Movie: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OxQ-2gR1DU
In a movie initially lauded, now decried for its fight scenes full of flying around and fantasy, this fight is more grounded in reality than any other in the movie. Granted, that doesn't say a whole lot, but in a movie where people are running up plant stems and jumping from rooftop to rooftop, this fight stands out.
VS
Cunningham vs. Rob Roy
Movie: Rob Roy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVaslN1NiT0
A great movie swordfight if ever there was one. It may not have a lot of visually fancy choreography, but it has a greate sense of realism and psychology to it. They pause, and wait, think the fight out, they run out of breath because swordfighting is tiring. They don't just galavant into it because it's a fight to the death. And rather than the fight being either really close the whole way through or the villain beats up the hero until the hero arbitrarily wins, the better swordfighter gets the upper hand for the great majority of the fight, and then the hero wins in a somewhat ingenious move that might not have worked if the villain had chosen a different sword. This is one of the two really great swordfights I've seen in movies.

Sorry for the lack of names, but I watched this without subtitles or a dub. The goofy-ass over the top concept of the movie allows for some really good fight choreography that can't be gotten in other movies.

Chun Li vs. Vega
Movie: Street Fighter II
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZANQrCqht84
There aren't many good fights in animated movies. There, I said it. I don't know what it is, but the hand to hand combat is either in short bursts too quick to be much of a fight scene in and of its self, the sword fights usually are edited so you can't actually see the fighting, and the gun fights, while usually okay, usually aren't the only thing going on, and there's too much intercutting to get a good feel of the fight. Not a knock on animation, obviously, but it's a fight scene tournament, and there aren't many good animated ones. But this one is a surprisingly good one. The street fighters, usually in more open surroundings, have a fight in decidedly more cramped surroundings. Well animated, good psychology to it with Chun-Li attacking Vega's face, and Guile looks like a useless bufoon.
VS
The Wild Bunch vs. The Mexican Army
Movie: The Wild Bunch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OLvEJ3kP1s
This is what got me to like westerns. Pike's "Let's go." and the long walk where you know what's coming and you know how it'll turn out, until Requiem for a Dream, this scene was one of two that made me come closest to crying during a movie. All that emotional build up to a really fucking epic gun battle.

Nada vs. Frank
Movie: They Live
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsZpdUUdd3I
A fight scene good enough to redeem an otherwise mediocre movie. Rowdy Roddy Piper and Keith David fight it out for real, save face and groin shots. That kind of thing would NEVER fly these days, which is understandable, but all the same it made for a great fight scene. It's made all the more awesome by the fact that it's the direct inspiration (ie: they copied it almost move for move) of the Cripple Fight from South Park.
VS
Thornton vs. Danaher
Movie: The Quiet Man
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh5nH6UTgj8
John Wayne's usual movie silliness transfered to a surprisingly entertaining extended fist fight. The running joke of the betting is amusing, as is Wayne getting constantly doused with water. Everybody yelling "Thornton and Danaher are fighting!" prompting other bystanders to run up to watch is reminiscant of Cartman running around yelling "cripple fight!" in the abovementioned scene from South Park. The fight its self is at least way above the fights in the various Elvis movies, and probably John Wayne's best fight scene.

Round 1: Match 7
Jason Bourne vs. Would-be Assassin
Movie: The Bourne Identity
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIOI_CQJ9MM
The least shakey of the Bourne fights I can recall, and the one that's more of a straight fight scene than an expansive action sequence. The Bourne movies always had good crisp fight choreography, and actually made Matt Damon believable as a badass. Witness him fight a knife-wielding attempted killer using a pulled-apart ink pen.
VS
Wesley The Man In Black vs. Inigo Montoya
Movie: The Princess Bride
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2983131103184011100&q=Princess+Bride+duel&total=9&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=1
One of my favorites in this tournament, and IMO the best sword fight still in it. It starts out with ever-entertaining dialogue and goes into a classic sword fight. Possibly the complete antithesis of the Rob Roy sword fight, where Inigo and Wesley do a big, complicated sword duel with flips and catching swords in mid-air and switching hands, and shot so you can tell it's Patinkin and Elwes for most of it. I <3 this fight.

Jason and the Argonauts vs. some skeletons
Movie: Jason and the Argonauts
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwBc2K2dw-8
Classic Ray Harryhausen work, possibly the best piece of stop motion animation ever. Before the time where this would be done with computers, Jason and the Argonauts fight stop motion skeletons that move, fight, grab weapons, die, jump over things, almost seem sentient. While it might not look as fancy as it would if it were done today, it still holds up as being damn impressive.
VS
William Munny vs. Little Bill and co.
Movie: Unforgiven
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_NrMBdNp88
The whole movie seems to build to this, while managing to catch Munny at least by surprise. It's excellently shot and has a lot more suspense than gun fights that are just people shooting from behind things and ducking bullets like a lot of other westerns might have done (*cough*ALL JOHN WAYNE MOVIES*cough*). Capped by one of my favorite Eastwood lines.

Hai vs. Ricky
Movie: Riki-Oh
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaC9WfQ-Fzg
While the head crushing may be the most iconic image from the movie, this is the fight everybody remembers. Ricky tying his tendon back together with his teeth, Hai choking Ricky with his own guts, it's all so bloody and violent and over the top. Hell, they're fighting beneath a crucified guy. One of the better kung fu movies in its over-the-top-ness
VS
The Saints vs. Il Duce
Movie: The Boondock Saints
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ff5DlpZiMZ0
The only real gunfight in the movie. The rest are just massacres. Yes, it uses some of the same clichés the brothers themselves mock earlier in the movie, yes, Dafoe's prancing about and firing the gun in the air is silly if you really think about it, but who cares? The first time you see Il Duce with his gun vest and the cigar and sun glasses, it's way awesome.

Neo vs. Morpheus
Movie: The Matrix
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmEPXXJ4sKw
What? Not one of the Neo vs. Smith fights? Nope. I found this fight to be much more impressive. It didn't have an overabundance of glaringly obvious CGI, it was well choreographed, had a good story to it with Neo trying to learn how the Matrix works still, and good attention to detail. When Morpheus' foot goes through the floor at the 1:54 mark, notice the floor fixes its self. I didn't catch that until I watched the video to put it in the tournament.
VS
Preston vs. the Tetragrammaton
Movie: Equilibrium
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erFz8jBzkhQ
Technically severall smaller sequences put together, but I always considered it one long fight scene. Preston getting so pissed off he reverts back to emotionless killing machine was a damn good idea by the writers, as was the fakeout with one of the more anticipated fights, which is actually more realistic (in the sense that anything in this movie could be) the way it turns out here. And the gun-kata fight between Preston and Father is something I've never seen in movies before.

Azumi vs. A village
Movie: Azumi
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdklA35ji6M
If you hate unrealistic fights, just skip over this and vote for...ok, I guess if you hate unrealistic fights just wait until the next match. This fight is like the Bride vs. the Crazy 88 on a much larger scale, with Azumi fighting a whole village worth of thievs and killers. There's at least some attempts at plausibility; instead of her just swordfighting all of them to death there's a cannon she uses at the very beginning (not seen in this clip), she drops the watchtower on them, lets different factions of the village fight each other, the effeminate villain starts killing them, too, but it's still her vs. like a hundred or so guys. It's well directed by Kitamura, and the village set looks great. The only gripe I have is about the clip its self since I couldn't find one with the fight with her and the main villain attached.
VS
Eric Draven vs. a bunch of criminals
Movie: The Crow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mev1OrDXdKk
This is the scene that makes me like Draven. The pawn shop scene was cool, ditto with the flaming bird thing, but this part was tits. Top Dollar, stupid name aside, is a good villain, his group of merry fodder are effective enough, and Brandon Lee just bukkakes this scene with charisma. Why he never became a huge star after this movie, I'll never know.

LT vs. Hallum
Movie: The Hunted
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrpbdqnxSM0
The specific fight is the end one, it starts five minutes into the clip. Sorry, but I couldn't find an isolated clip of it. This fight is great for the same reason that the swordfight from Rob Roy was great; realism. There's no flying around, it's not flashy. There's a real sense of gravity and of the world in this fight. They get muddy and gringy and tired. And the moments of improvisation is great. A guy gets cut on the arm, so he pools the blood in his hand and throws it in the other guy's eyes. That, dropping the knife into the other hand, and several other little things make this fight great, and it especially stood out when it was released when the Crouching Tiger fad was in full swing.
VS
Jack Butler vs. Eugine
Movie: Crossroads
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idb2dUtTpuU
"DAMNIT, Sam The Egg, this isn't a fight scene! That's just guitar playing! What the HELL are you trying to pull?" I know, I know, it's not a 'fight scene' in the strictest sense, but there's a very simple explanation for everything: It's my tournament. Call it a bending of the rules if you want, but I love a good guitar duel, and this is a damn good one. Although considering Jack Butler is played by Steve Vai, best guitar player around, and he does a bunch of Maccio's stuff as well, it damn well better be good. You've gotta see the movie to get some of the stuff, but I'll paraphrase: Eugine is a classically trained guitar player, wants to learn blues, teams up with Old Black Blues Man, OBBM had sold his soul to the devil, this is the guitar duel to get it back. Butler is the Devil's representative. Got it? Good.

Dae Han Park vs. Tommy Lee
Movie: Best of the Best
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hK0Gym2hRac
"Coach, he's gonna kill him!" Tee hee. The overdone drama is in high form in this fight scene. What will Tommy Lee (not the man-skank from the 80's band, this one is Asian looking) do? Cost America the precious few points it needs to win the karate fight championship or kill his brother? Coach James Earl Jones says "no" and you don't mess with James Earl Jones using his deep voice.

Same director as the fight in Azumi, but with a smaller budget and much smaller cast. I was going to go with the Yakuza guys vs. the zombies, but the fight was broken up too much into different scenes, so I opted for the also good and more concise final fight.

Hopefully this style of fight scenes take off like the Crouching Tiger style fights took off. Truth be told, I much prefer these fight scenes to the ones where everybody's flying about and running up plant life and what not. Jaa manages to sustain a hell of a beating here with the big guy smashing things on him and keeps coming, while managing to make it look convincing and not just "he can't get hurt, he's the protagonist!"
VS
The Bride vs. the Crazy 88
Movie: Kill Bill vol. 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdjuS17DGlA
Make sure to watch this clip even if you've seen the movie. It's the Japanese cut of it and it doesn't cut to black and white or anything, so it's a bit different. I didn't think Uma Thurman would make a convincing action heroine, having only seen her in Pulp Fiction and Batman & Robin, but she emphatically proves me wrong by maiming several dozen Japanese people.

Annakin Skywalker vs. Obi-Wan Kenobi
Movie: Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSwy412nttI
Six movies built up to this fight. Two or three of them were really good. But nevertheless, the fight scene is fantastic. It was really close between this and the Kenobi/Jinn vs. Darth Maul fight, but seeing whiny-ass Mannequin Skywalker get his limbs chopped off while his face melts wins out.
VS
Coolie, Donut, and the Tailor vs. the Axe Gang
Movie: Kung Fu Hustle
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZorwMyOyPOk
Kung Fu Hustle had to be in the tournament. The movie, this fight in particular, is one of the rare occasions where comedy, and not just the over-the-top violence or exploitation-referencing style, but actual comedy, is blended with action and it's not just lame slapstick boringness. There's slapstick, yes, but it's neither lame nor boring. Shanghai Noon aside, Jackie Chan wishes his alleged comedies were as funny as this.

Oddly enough, not that many good fight scenes to pick from this one. But considering they were never in the same place at the same time in real life, this fight gets a ton of points on filmmaking alone. Yeah, Tony Jaa fucks people up, but I'm pretty sure that one knife to the back and he'd go down for a while. Dae-su Oh? Hell no.
