I'm suer you've all heard that Paul W.S. Anderson is remaking the Roger Corman classic Deathrace 2000 with Jason Statham and *cough-talentless-cough* Tyrese Gibson as Frankenstien and Machine Gun Kelly respectively, but here's more confirmation that this is going to suck ass:

From The Hollywood Reporter
"Death Race" sees a future America in which prison inmates are forced to brutally compete in an enclosed arena. Statham will play a prisoner who, with only weeks to go before his release, is coerced into being a driver and becomes the crowd favorite called Frankenstein.

Prison??? Enclosed arena???

Well there goes ALL the fun of the original in which pedestrians were targets to run over for bonus points. The gleefully bleak statement about the devaluation of human life is gone...and with it ANY reason to remake the film.

Fuck Paul W.S. Anderson whose initials (P.W.S.A.) and filmmaking style will forever brand him PUSSAAAAAAAY in my book.

I knew this movie would be a disappointment...with the annoying Tyrese on-board I expected no less. But Anderson has been a hit-and-miss director so I was willing to give him a chance. (as mentioned in my Latest News in Horror thread)

Not any more. This is going down faster than the Titanic.

This just blows.

I hate when they remake the ones that really don't need remakes.

They should remake movies that blew to try and make them better.

I would pay good money to see Franky or Machine Gun mow over Anderson anytime of the year.

Death Race...first exclusive trailer...the cast might suck, and regardless of what you think of Anderson as director, this ACTUALLY looks pretty decent...

Huh...I'll admit that I haven't seen the original, but that looks like it'll be pretty fun.

Ok....I gotta admit...that looks kickass. I really like Jason Statham and Ian McShane. It doesn't look like a remake at all.

That looks......interesting. But what happened to the hit and runs? And what's up with the whole prison thing? This looks entirely different from the original. Besides, wasn't the original more of a sci-fi?

DEATHRACE 2000 is a classic cult film; it the kind of film I would have seen at the drive-in; the 70's hairstyles are great. I see no need to remake it. Remakes are usually pretty boring. The satire is still biting and relevant. So many of the remakes try too hard to be interesting and end up just being annoying.
