i think we're talking early eighties, maybe even late seventies...it was in constant rotation on hbo when i was a lad, a film about a person kept in a basement, well, he was more of a monster than a human but i think maybe his parents kept him chained up in their basement...i know, doesn't sound like a lot to go on, i just remember a woman going downstairs and the basement having a greenish blue tint...and that dude scared the piss out of me...

It had that big guy in it that used to be on St.Elsewhere...Stephen something...
I can't think of the movie name but if you IMDB Stephenwhatever's name, it will pop up.

This may be the most amazingly vague bit of "helpfulness" I've ever seen.
Brilliantly done, my dead:D :D :D :D :D

i thought it must be "the beast in the cellar" after reading a couple of reviews, but the description of the "beast" sounded more like rip van winkle which wouldn't have scared me in the least...i went the "st. elsewhere" approach and found "the unseen" which has the same family-secret-locked-in-the-basement theme and since it's from 1981 and apparently the "unseen" was given a good makeup job, this is probably it...
thanks for the help...

I figured somebody knew his name.
But I still KNEW the movie, even though inconsequential things like title and actor names didn't come to mind:D
