A 4-month-old boy who was injured when bleach was splashed in his face during a confrontation between his parents led to the discovery of seven other children living inside a house of filth, according to Apopka police. Investigators said a pregnant woman and her husband were involved in an argument inside their Apopka home Tuesday night when the baby was hit with bleach.
"Apparently, the mother was going to pour bleach on the father's clothing, at which time he took the bleach from her and slung beach toward the mother," Apopka police Officer Kim Walsh said.
Police said the fight continued into the kitchen where the 38-year-old man, who was not identified by Local 6 News because of the nature of the incident, grabbed a knife and threatened to kill the woman and her unborn child.
During the investigation, officers said they found the couple's other children living in squalor.
Apopka police said they found cockroaches, dirty clothes and four large trash bags containing spoiled food and maggots in the house.
"Deplorable," Walsh said. "There were dirty diapers covering the house. The investigators said the smell was overwhelming. And there were rotten food and maggots within the house."
The man was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and cruelty toward a child with great bodily harm.
The couple's five children along with three kids from a previous relationship of the husband's were in the house at the time of the incident, police said.
The 4-month-old's condition is not known.
The Department of Children and Families was contacted to investigate the situation.

Sometimes I think there should be some kind of test or psych evaluation people should take before being allowed to have children.
