I wrote a review on this....:
Mr. Jingles
Ok, this movie was a bit hard to get myself to put it into my DVD player after finding out this is the sequel to the horrible movie S.I.C.K.(Serial Insane Clown Killer). The first one was so slow, boring and uncreative that this one in my mind had to be the same. When I turned it on and saw the horrible camera work, I cringed when remembering the first one’s shaky and pixilated home movie cameras of the first film. I figured the sequel to be no different or worse, but oddly enough, it’s not the case.
Luckily, this sequel had a new director, Tommy Brunswick. Though this also being his first film to make a debut on store shelves, it was still years better in the directing department than it’s predecessor. It is quicker paced, more understandable, creepier and has a bit different of an atmosphere than the original. Not to mention the clown’s makeup job was a lot better considering the budget. This one actually seemed scary.
The acting was again, horrid. Nothing about the acting in this movie worked for me. Even in normal conversation between characters in the movie, nothing seemed believable. As if the cameras weren’t bad enough on making you seasick at points, the actors made the whole ‘killer clown on the loose’ theme, feel like they either already knew and didn’t care, or they didn’t know and didn’t care. It was just a very unconvincing acting job. The scripting for the characters was also very strange. Some of it left me scratching my head with confusion because they just lost me.
As far as spookiness goes….it’s just not here. The only thing that would possibly be scary about this movie besides its predecessor would be if you were possibly scared of clowns anyway. The clown isn’t going to scare anyone that has never been scared of them, but he is a bit more sinister than clowns you see in most other horror films. Not to mention the fact that he’s insane acting and not silent and mysterious like 90% of others.
Maybe it’s gore and guts you’re looking for. Well, this one was quite a bit on the gory side. Not all that realistic looking, but it’s still in that splatter-movie genre. It’s got enough blood and gore to keep splatter fans entertained, and is a bit much for those with weak stomachs. The only bad thing is like I said, it doesn’t look realistic. I remember one scene where he goes to ax someone in the head, and he lays it on the side of the persons forehead area and it shows blood dripping down from no apparent wound. Stuff like that killed the gross out factor, but in that weird way, you still may lose your appetite.
You don’t really get attached to the characters in this movie like you should. You don’t feel as if they actually mean anything and that they are in fact going to be killed. I’m pretty sure when the film starts playing that you’ll be able to pick and choose which of the numerous characters in the film are going to die before even one person is killed. It’s way to predictable to be scary in the least. And is it me, or does it seem like now days in horror films, you have to be a special someone to get killed? The killer seems to only go after certain people and not just killing at random.
One thing working in this film’s favor is the short running time. It clocks in at just over an hour and has picked up in pace so long before that, that you really don’t mind finishing the movie unlike when you watch the original S.I.C.K..
I guess we will always be condemned to having only low budget killer clown movies. It seems a shame too, considering how many people are actually scared of clowns. This title will be avoided and looked over for the most part when seen on a rental place’s shelf. The only people who will actually enjoy this film are those who are trying to find all of the clown movies there are out there. There aren’t that many, I may add.
Overall: 4/10
