Machete-Wielding Man Sought For Attack On Pizza Parlor

San Jose, California -- Authorities are on the lookout for a man who showed up at a pizza parlor wielding a 2-foot machete because his delivery pizza didn't show up soon enough, police said today.

The manager of Pizza My Dear on South Bascom Avenue suffered cuts during the attack Friday and had to get several stitches, police Sgt. Nick Muyo said today.

The incident began when someone -- investigators don't believe it was the suspect -- called the business and ordered a delivery pizza, Muyo said.

"The manager explained that it takes about 30 minutes to make a pizza and 15 minutes to deliver, so they should plan on getting the pizza in 30 to 45 minutes," Muyo said. "About 30 minutes in, somebody -- we think it's the suspect -- called the pizza parlor and the manager told him the pizza was on the way."

A few minutes later, the pizza deliveryman arrived at an address about 15 minutes away from the parlor, Muyo said.

"The suspect meets him and is cussing a blue streak, yelling at the guy, saying he doesn't want the pizza because he was late," Muyo said.

The deliveryman called his manager, who instructed him to return to the parlor with the pizza.

But the suspect wasn't done yet.

"He showed up at the pizza parlor about 30 minutes later, swearing again ... saying, 'Do you want a piece of me?' -- all over a pizza," Muyo said. "The manager kind of shooed the guy out the door and the guy walked to his car and pulled out 2-foot machete. He came back in, and now he was swinging at the fence."

The manager was cut when he raised his hand to protect his head from the machete, Muyo said. The suspect fled as soon as the manager yelled at his workers to call the police.
