I astounded my girlfriend last night regarding Clive Barker.

Currently reading Coldheart Canyon, so was talking about the great man himself. I told her that rumours are about that Disney have bought the rights to produce the Abarat films in a computer generated family thing (there is also talks about a themepark - can you believe it?). I said that at least it would be a film we could both enjoy.

She got a bit confused, saying 'but Hellraiser?' over and over. She thought that Barker just did pure, gory horror in film and print. The fact that he won a Stoker for children's fiction? Well...

I don't think Barker can be labelled as a horror guy. Sure, he has contributed greatly to the horror genre, but surely he is more a fantasy writer, with horror elements. Hellbound Heart, books of blood and Cabal aside, can any of his other works be labelled as horror?

The books of the Art, Imajica and Weaveworld are my preferred Barker reads.

Isnt he supposed to be remaking Hellraiser, or atleast rewrite it?? I will get back on that......

Hellraiser (2008) (announced) (screenplay)
The Thief of Always (2007) (announced) (novel)
Tortured Souls: Animae Damnatae (2007) (announced) (novella Tortured Souls)
Born (2008) (pre-production)
Midnight Meat Train (2008) (post-production) (short story "The Midnight Meat Train")

All from IMDB.com....Yeah he is rewriting Hellraiser, I am really looking forward to that. It always helps that if a movie is going to be remade, that the writer, director or characters come back to add in....

He is also writing a long length novel called the Scarlett Bible (or something like that), which pits the original novella cenobites against his supernatural sleuth Harry D'Amore. Bound to be good a un.
