Hi!
It's your hostess for the supernatural, Marya Zaleska.
My post tonight is about a classic TV miniseries entitled The Dark Secret Of Harvest Home.
Usually TV movies are not as good as the one's you see in the theatres. However, this was a superb mini series and almost too good for TV.
This TV miniseries starred Bette Davis, Dan Ackroyd, Patricia Arquette, Rene Auberjoinois, Joanna Miles and John Calvin.
It was directed by Leo Penn and the story was written by Tom Tryon, actor turned author. I'm sure you remember Tom in I Married A Monster From Outer Space.
The film dealt with the moving of a young couple to this quite New England village whereby they get mixed up in ancient rituals.
The central character (The Widow Fortune) was played chillingy by Bette Davis. The young couple are played by Dan Ackroyd and Patricia Arquette and they go through a long series of events that ends up to an unexpected and frightening conclusion.
Even though there were a lot of restructions on what could be shown on TV at the time (1978). this TV miniseries packs a punch.
I recommend this film very highly for horror and supernatural fans.
It is currently not available on DVD. There is a VHS copy available but it is VERY expensive.
The problem with the VHS copy is that it is a 2 hour version of a 3 hour miniseries.
I still have my VHS copy and it is in good condition.
Hopefully the 3 hour version will come out on DVD ( like the Salem's Lot mini series did).
If this comes on TV be sure to see it and tape it. Or see it at a friends' house whose has the tape.
If you are a true horror fan you will buy a copy of this fim when it comes out on DVD.
You most definitely will not regret it
