This was a TV series that ran for two seasons from 1960-1962.
It was hosted by movie horror great Boris Karloff.
The series started out with straightforward mysteries and thrillers. When the ratings, fell stories of the supernatural were added. With these additions, the ratings began to rise.
Many of these tales of the supernatural were some of the best to appear on TV. Unfortunately there were not enough and the series was withdrawn after the second season.
This is a series that is rarely aired today on TV. I taped some of the supernatural episodes in the early 1980's when the series was run on my public TV station.
As we all know, tapes do not last. So I retaped many of them from the Sci Fi channel which ran the series in the mid 1990's. The unfortunate reality was that it was shown at 2AM in the morning as well as the fact that the Sci Fi channel is noted for an astoundging array of commercial interruptions.
The good news is that about a year and a half ago I was able to get the entire series on DVD. It was not reissued by the original network but the picture quality was that of a high speed beta tape, a rating of 8.5 to 9 out of a ten.
The outstanding episodes in this series were:
The Incredible Doktor Markessan
The Premature Burial
Pidgeons From Hell
The Hungry Glass
The Return Of Andrew Bentley
The Weird Tailor
Trio For Terror
The Grim Reaper
Dialogues With Death
A Wig For Miss Devore
Dark Legacy
The Cheaters
The Terror In Teakwood
The Devil's Ticket
The Remarkable Mrs. Hawks
God Grant That She Lye Stille
La Strega
The Prisoner In The Mirror
Any and all of these are worth a post on this site. which over time I hope to accomplish along with other films and TV series of the horror genre.
I am thrilled that I have a forum to share my love of horror with others.
Well, so long for now.
