I can't believe that! I'm a Ketchum fan and that is one of my favorite books. How the hell can they make that a movie? I would have thought the subject matter would be too hard to make a passable movie. Well the trailer looks good so I hope it doesn't suck.
The book is based on a true story: Sylvia Marie Likens (http://www.crimelibrary.com/notorious_murders/young/likens/1.html)

Absolutely NOT the same movie, only the names are the same. This would be the exact opposite of that.

This is NOT the comedy that starred Elisha Cuthbert that was released in 2004... this is based on Jack Ketchum's controversial horror novel about child abuse. Here is what Michael Laimo (author of DEEP IN THE DARKNESS, THE DEMONOLOGIST, and DEAD SOULS) said about the film after seeing a sneak preview at a screening in New York City...
I recently had the honor of seeing the film THE GIRL NEXT DOOR, which is based on the controversial novel by Jack Ketchum. Ketchum’s novel, recently reprinted by Leisure Books, has found itself a new host of fans. And now the movie will do the same.
Even more so, in fact. Folks, this movie is a true serious horror film in every sense. It gathers emotions from the viewer previously unknown to exist. It’s a powerful film, and perhaps an immediate cult classic. One thing is for certain. It will be successful. It’s controversial, and like that car crash you have to slow down to see, it will draw moviegoers in by the heaploads. And then…you will stare, your heart will pound. You will be left in stunned silence as the theater of perhaps 200 viewers had been when the credits began to roll. It takes a few moments for one to realize that you enjoyed the hell out of this movie, despite being left scarred. Yes, it will scar you, as it did this veteran horror enthusiast. Why? Because the filmmakers have succeeded in making this movie feel undeniably real. There are no cheesy Silent Hill moments, or in your face Hostel gore splatterings. No, the monsters in this movie are as real as they get: the human beings you’ve grown to trust all your life. And then you will find yourself fearing for your own sanity as these monsters reveal to you that they’ve lost theirs some time ago, and are currently snapping with you caught in their inescapable web.
No spoilers here. Even going into this film knowing what to expect lends no true comfort to you as the horrors gradually unfold. The acting performances are as believable as they get. The horrors seem stunningly real. The writers have truly covered themselves in every corner, making every plausible out seem utterly impossible.
I could go on and on. This is a perfect horror movie. It will bring you nightmares, and that’s what a good horror movie should do.
