I was thinking about opening up a drive-in movie theater.Find one that was reasonably still standing and fix it up, although I have no idea what that entails.
I always think up things to open up here left of bum-fuck,cause there's nothing to do for the younger people and absolutely nothing to do for us olde shits.
I don't have the cash to do it-probably never will, but that's not the point.
I would run older movies, SCARY movies:) , classics and of course do the RockyHorror thang every Friday night.
I think running new movies would screw up the vibe.
I wish they'd recondition these old drive-ins, I think the masses are itching for some older Americana like this to come back.
What are the cons?

one of the major reasons they are not around anymore is because of the major upkeep price. you have to consider weather and that plays a major factor on soemething like that. When i was in ny for 3 years i saw one open up and within the same year it was shut down because the snow damage was too much to repair and it didnt make that much money.

Good point.
I never considered the weather. (no, I'm not kidding)
I wonder if new technology could overcome things like...rain?
I know if it was raining and I could still see the screen-I'd be there.

people driving off with your speakers on their cars---they still use those right
vandalism your screen may get spray painted by some piece of shit that thinks he is in a gang

Most drive-in theaters use radio stations now.

There's nothing like starting a venture knowing absolutely nothing about it and no money:D

close it up when you're finsihed, have a guard dog and barbed wire. The only trouble is you could lose money by cars hanging around nearby and tuning into the network.

research it 1st
I think its a good idea and with a proper system in place..
this could definately work.
We have a similar place like that over here called 'Spookers'
in which they transformed an old mental hospital into a haunted house
but in the outside area where its rumored that unmarked graves are
and a few old headstones chucked all over the place..they have horror movies
playing.
Just the mere thought that your car is sitting on some famous mass murderers grave..puts the chills up anyones back.

ask these guys
http://www.missiontiki.com/
they run an awesome drive-in in SoCal, they should be able to tell you everything you need to know. Money should never stop you from pursuing something...small business loans happen all the time.
