LOL....odd I have never seen one movie on that list, but I think they might be "scary" in the wrong kind of way.....:p

I agree, a lot of the "old ones" are the scary ones, but hey to each their own I suppose, trying to avoid going back TOO far..... But since I have no idea what "old" means to you and what of these you may have already seen and/or own.....

The Evil Dead
Evil Dead 2
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)
Psycho (original)
A Nightmare On Elm Street
Videodrome
Scanners
The Fly (Cronenberg's remake)
The Thing (Carpenter's remake)
Tenebre
Opera
Suspiria
Freaks (okay, okay this one is really, really old, but pretty freakin' disturbing in my opinion)
Hellraiser
Dog Soldiers

Yeah, I MUST be bored, but you have been blessed with my recommendations of just a few must haves.....and yes, some of them are probably considered old.....maybe I'M getting old.....*sighs* ;)

The Wicker Man is Lovecraft without the tentacles, a man's struggle to figure out a world whose gods came before his and whose occupants threaten to destroy his values. Videodrome is always recommended and the Criterion edition is really nice. I always stand behind the Gojira boxed set, because it was a foundation for a lot of films and has a lot of emotional impact. It's also a Criterion level product you can buy for under 20 dollars most places. The Hollywood Horror Legends box for 28 bucks on Amazon gets you six really good pieces of thirties horror, with Mad Love and Doctor X shining as standout examples of a gutsy era. Many of the 50 movie sets out there have some excellent stuff, both obscure and classic. 50 Chilling Classics for example, has Deep Red, Bad Taste, Horror Express, Hands of a Stranger and a Bucket of Blood among others on it. The current Reanimator box is well worth the cash and showcases what might be the best Lovecraft adaptation out there, other than Gordon's Dagon, which doesn't really deserve to be dumped on so much. For building a collection, these are a good foundation, and all good values.
