I'm strangely enticed by this game...
Not just the liking to cook thing...actually, not that at all.
I was just looking at this and thinking it'sd at least be a laugh.

The DS version was a fun little compilation of mini-games, looks like they've fleshed it out into a real game.

My friend just bought that for her Wii last Friday, and we played it a good 5 hours or so, it's fun but it makes you hungry.

I think the wii is a bit more of a novelty. The games seem more like internet free games than £20 disks.

I don't think so...
Nintendo has always embraced the power of the gimmick...in fact, more than most console companies. From the time of the nes onwards, there's been some clever and innovative, some just weird...but a constant flow of ideas that they've not shyed away from bringing to the public.
The nes buddy robot, the power glove, the virtual boy...to name but a few.
Not all great, but none have killed nintendo yet.
In this day and age, they are the longest established brand in gaming, and I think with that comes a certain garauntee of quality.
The gamecube was a great system, unfortunately eclipsed by two companies who spent much more money on advertising...anyone who played it, won't call it a dud system though.
This time around, I personally think this system will have increased popularity...mainly due to what actually seems to be a pretty good control system (the steering wheel/rackets/sword&shield/rifle grips...) but it also looks awesome, not only will the standard family-friendly games be coming out, but this one looks like it's aiming at the adult market more than a nintendo console ever has...gamecube dipped it's toes, the wii is diving in.
Not to mention the ability to download MANY old games that most of us oldskool lovers have been stuck playing on shitty emulators...that, and the fact that the debut (and current price) is still WAY cheaper than the two current-gen competitors...
So, between IMO a decent control system, what's bound to be as decent a gaming library as usual (with more adult titles), and the oldskool, the next zelda, the next mario, the next resident evil, and what looks like an awesome version of COD3...I can take a few gymmicks thrown my way.
Not a bad thing, as long as the focus is "fun". Looks way better than all that eyetoy shit, and having used the ps3's wireless motion sensor control, I'd say it'd have to be better than that.
Besides, games like this are fun...play BISHI BASHI and tell me otherwise.
I think for any fans of party games, this system is the #1 answer.
