Hi
I wonder if any of you recognise what this book might be I don't have much to go onm and I doubt it is by Stephen King or Dean Koontz, as I have read their books time and again.
It is an apocalyptic horror novel but for the life of me I can't remember what happened, to cause the breakdown in society. Some of the people went crazy, like all inhibitiions gone. Not everyone went crazy though as there was group of people that found each other and I think they may have special abilities of some kind
I can only remember 3 scenes from the book:
First scene: A woman and her daughter (think it is daughter) get trapped in a department store and are attacked by insane maniacs , that are only interested in rape and violence against the women. The women hide in a bedroom department I think, but the men findd them, and attack, I think one of them women stabbed one of the maniacs to death, I also remember the front department store window being smashed through.
Second scene: An office block, a couple of the books heroes here, and rescue a girl being attacked by the men in the offices. Very vague but, I also remember them trying to get out of the building via the stair wells and someone falling down them.
Third scene: The heroes and their normies are trying to get somewhere and are outside in the city (I think it is set in London), they come to a street with a big hotel, where a rival madman some kind of prophet maybe for the crazies is hold up. The crazies surround the normies, but somehow they get through, I am sure it is by one of them using a special power. Because society has broken down, all the animals have escaped from the Zoo, and one of the normies gets attacked and his arm chewed off by a lion. I remember feeling sad at this as he was one of those nice charcaters you get to like.
The above are the only things I remember about the book. As a keen Richard Laymon, Shaun Hutson, Graham Masterson and James Herbert fan, I can't recall it being one of theirs either.
If anyone can help identify it, or suggest possibilities, I would be happier than Jason Voorhees in a harem.
