Hi

I wonder if any of you recognise what this book might be I don't have much to go onm and I doubt it is by Stephen King or Dean Koontz, as I have read their books time and again.
It is an apocalyptic horror novel but for the life of me I can't remember what happened, to cause the breakdown in society. Some of the people went crazy, like all inhibitiions gone. Not everyone went crazy though as there was group of people that found each other and I think they may have special abilities of some kind

I can only remember 3 scenes from the book:

First scene: A woman and her daughter (think it is daughter) get trapped in a department store and are attacked by insane maniacs , that are only interested in rape and violence against the women. The women hide in a bedroom department I think, but the men findd them, and attack, I think one of them women stabbed one of the maniacs to death, I also remember the front department store window being smashed through.

Second scene: An office block, a couple of the books heroes here, and rescue a girl being attacked by the men in the offices. Very vague but, I also remember them trying to get out of the building via the stair wells and someone falling down them.

Third scene: The heroes and their normies are trying to get somewhere and are outside in the city (I think it is set in London), they come to a street with a big hotel, where a rival madman some kind of prophet maybe for the crazies is hold up. The crazies surround the normies, but somehow they get through, I am sure it is by one of them using a special power. Because society has broken down, all the animals have escaped from the Zoo, and one of the normies gets attacked and his arm chewed off by a lion. I remember feeling sad at this as he was one of those nice charcaters you get to like.

The above are the only things I remember about the book. As a keen Richard Laymon, Shaun Hutson, Graham Masterson and James Herbert fan, I can't recall it being one of theirs either.

If anyone can help identify it, or suggest possibilities, I would be happier than Jason Voorhees in a harem.

I know you said you are a keen James Herbert fan but this sounds a bit like the JH Novel 48.Was the Novel you are after set in the present or the past?

I have read 48, I remember it took me ages to get into but once I did, I enjoyed it, I read that many I get plot coma, but wasn't 48 about the nazis. I shall dig it out and have a look. As I recall I am sure it was set in the present, but I just draw blanks when I try and think of it.

Thanks a lot I now have something to go on :)

I have a scanned through 48, and I don't think it is 48. There is mention of some animals escaping from the Zoo, and it is apopcalyptic, in fact there are many similarities, but the people with Hoke don't seem anything like the characters in the book I am trying to find, as I vaguely recall they may have had supernatural powers, and I am sure it was a modern setting, as there was a department store, and an office block. Thanks for replying though :)

Hi, neither of those two titles ring a bell, and neither do the authors. But to be honest I cannot remember anything about the title or the author. I read it about 6 or 7 years ago, but can't remember whether it was a new release or not. I shall check out both books, thanks :)

I know it is not swan Song, but it sounds like a great book, so it is going to be my next read. Thanks for putting me on to it.

I need help too...
I remember reading a book a long time ago, can't remember the title of it for the life of me.
It was based around a funfair, with, I think a Ghost Train.
I know that it all revolved around an amulet..(it had some kind of power)
Any help would be appreciated, as I know that it's going to be naff now, but a little trip down memory lane didn't hurt anyone, and I thought I'd give it a go again.. :)
