Hi guys,

We normally rely on the visuals of a horror movie to give us the willies, to make us jump, sweat, nauseous, giggly, shocked, etc..

Have you ever read a horror book that affected you in one or all of the above ways?

One of the first books I ever read was "The Fog" by James Herbert. The garden shears scene stayed with me for a long time.

Pet Semetary scared the hell out of me the first time I read it, as did Apt Pupil, but in a different way.
Shorter works tend to bother me more than novels, it seems. The Black Cat by Poe creeped me out pretty good, and remains one of my favorite stories. The Shadow Over Innsmouth by Lovecraft scarred me for life and that is a fairly recent read ...LOL...I can't even tell you why that story freaked me out so much, but there it is.

it's amazing how the magic of words on a page can conjure up the same emotion that a darn good horror movie can do!

After all, the likes of Poe were writing to awaken our imaginations long before movies gave it to us in ya face :D

Oh definitely, I think that I was often more bothered by books or short stories for that very reason, a book allows you to use your imagination far more than a film does, and I don't know about anyone else, but the things I imagine and see in my mind scare me a hell of a lot more than what I can see in front of my eyes on the screen.
Though admittedly, no book impacted me quite as much as the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre did...LOL.
