Grindhouse tanked (which I'm still a little puzzled about - guess there aren't as many true film fans out there as I thought). I'm not so sure he'll get this one off the ground, but it looks cool. The Machete trailer in Grindhouse was great and I love Trejo!
and the tagline!
They fucked with the wrong Mexican! I should get that shit tattooed across my chest!

maybe a nice antonio banderas cameo. How sweet would it be if he was "the boss" revealed at the end

I heard that the movie would be part of the Grindhouse DVD, if that were true, it would make this a "buy or die" package for sure!

Two stars are reportedly circling Machete, the Grindhouse spin-off to be directed by Robert Rodriguez.
According to Bloody-Disgusting, Oscar winner Robert De Niro, Superbad's Jonah Hill, and Fast & Furious's Michelle Rodriguez are poised to join Danny Trejo in the film.
De Niro will reportedly play the corrupt Senator McLaughlin, the adversary of the blade-wielding ex-Federale Machete (once again played by Trejo, who co-starred with De Niro in Heat).
Rodriguez is said to play "Luz," while Hill has been tipped for the role of "Julio."
No word yet if Jeff Fahey and Cheech Marin will reprise their roles from the faux trailer as the man who hired and then double-crossed Machete and the shotgun-totin' padre, respectively.

And people are already dumping on the film because of the Lohan casting.
I'm not a fan of the silly little bitch either, but really, she hasn't been flaring up like herpes since she dropped the whole "yay, I'm a lesbian" schtick. Rodriguez, like Tarantino, likes to get a little wacky with his casting choices. Who else is going to make Danny Trejo a leading man? Or pull Steven Segal out of straight-to-DVD hell? Mickey Rourke's stock didn't start going up again until "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" and "Sin City."
So the folks crapping on "Machete" because of the casting are fucking idiots. Hell, if I can still enjoy "Black Snake Moan" even with Justin motherfucking Timberlake in it, I can handle a little Lindsey Lohan; at least she has tits.

I'd be inclined to agree with Fugly...Lohan and Alba both seem like odd casting choices, but it's Rodriguez - he knows what he's doing.
Plus the fact that we're going to have Cheech, De Niro, Seagal and Trejo in the same movie? Fuck man...I don't give two shits that we've got a couple of seemingly talentless celebs hanging around, that's STILL the most badass cast I've heard in a long while (barring The Expendables, of course).

Elise and Electra Avellan aka "The Crazy Babysitter Twins" from Grindhouse have been added to the ever growing cast of Robert Rodriguez's Machete. This time they will be known as "The Sexy Nurses" - perhaps the idea was inspired by their Maxim shoot where they were dressed up as sexy nurses.
The twins will be appearing at Spooky Empire in Orlando Florida with "Machete" co-star Danny Trejo on October 9-11, 2009. There will be a special midnight screening on Saturday night of the twin's new film The Black Waters of Echo's Pond at the event.
The twins star alongside Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Robert De Niro, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson and Jeff Fahey in the Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis co-directed film.
Machete is a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade who hides out as a day laborer, and things become ugly when he is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator.

“Machete is a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, and who is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator. The feature version of the trailer finds Machete (Trejo) a renegade former Mexican Federale, roaming the streets of Texas after a shakedown from drug lord Torrez (Seagal). Reluctantly, Machete takes an offer from spin doctor Benz (Fahey) to assassinate McLaughlin (De Niro) a corrupt Senator. Double crossed and on the run Machete braves the odds with the help of Luz (Rodriguez), a saucy taco slinger, Padre (Marin) his “holy” brother, and April (Lohan) a socialite with a penchant for guns. All while being tracked by Sartana (Alba), a sexy ICE agent with a special interest in the blade slinger.”

It’s been a long time coming for Robert Rodriguez and Danny Trejo’s Machete, first glimpsed as a faux trailer in movie double-whammy Grindhouse.
But only know, mere months before its Stateside release in April, are we learning just how far back Rodriguez’s plans for a Trejo-starring mash-up stretch.
Speaking to IGN during a Predators set visit, Trejo revealed that Machete is actually very much a child of the ‘90s.
“Everybody thinks that Machete came out of a trailer, but it didn't,” Trejo stated. “Robert told me that he wanted to do this movie called Machete when we were doing Desperado. If you look at the character in Machete, it is a metamorphosis. He kind of moulded this character of Machete.
“I think it's gonna be one of his best. And I'm not just saying that ’cause I'm the lead; it's just a great movie. I think everybody's gonna walk away from that movie with some opinion!”
And now that he’s finally been able to shrug on those killer leathers, Trejo’s definitely not going to let the character go easy. “We want Machete, Machete Kills, and Machete Kills Again,” he says. “That's mine and Robert's standards, you know? Every time I text him, he'll text me back, 'Machete 2, coming up!'”
Rodriguez, meanwhile, confirmed that editing on the film is taking place right now, while he is penning the film’s score. “It's going really terrific. It looks really great.”
As for Sin City 2? Don’t expect it any time soon. “We still talk about doing that as early as later next year, but I haven’t gotten into that yet,” admits Rodriguez. “I know Frank [Miller] wants to do it, I know I wanna do it and its always sort of time permitting.”

Machete Hitting Theaters Labor Day Weekend
Source: 20th Century Fox
April 16, 2010
20th Century Fox has set a September 3 release date for Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis' Machete, starring Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson and Steven Seagal. Labor Day falls on Monday, Sept. 6, which gives the movie a four-day opening weekend.
Machete is based on the "fake" trailer in Robert Rodriguez's 2007 Grindhouse. Double crossed and on the run Machete braves the odds with the help of Luz (Michelle Rodriguez), a saucy taco slinger, Padre (Marin) his "holy" brother, and April (Lohan) a socialite with a penchant for guns. All while being tracked by Sartana (Alba), a sexy ICE agent with a special interest in the blade slinger.

I'm a bit of a car guy and I actually enjoyed Death Proof, but I know a lot of people who like the Machete trailer more. (I'm just going to keep Death Proof and Planet Terror meshed to make my point) This one will have some high expectations attached but with a cast like that I'd say we're on the right track.

I'm really looking forward to this movie. I hope this is the beginning of a soon to be trend of actually making the fake previews from Grindhouse. I would see all of them, even though I think Machete will be the only one they make.

If the response for Machete is good, there could be more--
The film ends with a promise of more to come, "Machete Kills" and "Machete Kills Again." Rodriguez said that is meant as a joke but added he already had enough material for at least another film. "If people now see this and come to ask for more Machete movies, we will have to make it a reality," he said.

I can't wait to see it. It won't appeal to everyone, and probably shouldn't, but Rodriquez' films just work for me.
