Teen Ignites Himself Inside Wal-Mart
Middletown, Ohio — A 17-year-old boy apparently distraught over a breakup set himself on fire Friday morning in the electronics section of a Middletown store.
According to the Middletown Division of Police, the teen walked into the electronics department at the Towne Boulevard Wal-Mart just before 9:15 a.m. Friday and lit his jacket on fire.
The Middletown boy used a lighter and tissues stuffed in his pocket to ignite his jacket, which became "severely burnt," according to police.
The Wal-Mart store manager told police he used a nearby fire extinguisher to put out the flames before the 17-year-old sustained any injuries.
The teen's mother told police her son was distraught because he had recently broken up with his girlfriend.
The boy was taken to Middletown Regional Hospital for evaluation.
