Man Jumps From Empire State Building

New York -- A man jumped to his death Friday out the window of a 69th-floor law office in the Empire State Building.

Police responded to the New York City landmark shortly before 3 p.m. after a 911 caller reported seeing a severed leg - covered in a gray sock - on the street below. The rest of the body was recovered from a setback on the 30th floor.

The tragedy in the 102-story building closed portions of the busy Midtown Manhattan street while the investigation continued.

Police identified the man as Moshe Kanovsky, a lawyer in his 30s.

More than 30 people have committed suicide at the Empire State Building since it opened in 1931, including a 21-year-old man in February 2006. The skyscraper reaches 1,454 feet to the top of its lightning rod.

Could you imagine just walking down the street and seeing a bloody leg on the sidewalk?

If I HAD to kill myself, falling would be the way to go. I'm afraid of heights, but if you knew you were about to die, wouldn't you want it to be memorable to others? If not that, at least something exciting! I'd rather die at sea though. Not drowning, just disappear

It seemed a lot higher than that when I was up there, I hate heights put was talked into going up there. I have to admit that it did get me over my fear of heights. It is a beautiful view from up there. I wonder when people jump to kill themselves if they close their eyes? Could you imagine what the last thought would be if you kept them open. "Oh shit this is going to hurt"
