Something I've shared with few...
Alright, so as only a few of you know of this (and those of you will probably think I'm demented after spilling this), I'm bringing this out, mostly because it's really bugging me...
I have been having nightmares every night since I was 13. Some dreams have good parts in them, but the majority of most of them are really gruesome and horrific. I have blown my own brains out in one of my dreams. Needless to say, that was quite unpleasant.
Most of my dreams are end of the world, apocalypse type of thing. But last nights was the worst, most horrid thing I've ever seen...And that's saying a lot. The bad thing about this one...I can actually see this happening, and most of the dreams I've had have come true at some point. These "nightmares" aren't too far removed from our own reality....A lot of the places I see when I sleep, I see in person at some point or another. For instance, I went to sleep one night and saw my girlfriend (at that time), being raped by her father. I get up after that dream and get online at 3:30 in the morning, my girlfriend was on, and she had been raped about an hour before I got on...By her father no less. This bothers me because if that one, and numerous others I remember have come true, these I've had as of late can't be that far behind....
Last nights, like I said, has been the most disturbing so far.
*****WARNING*****
(The following portion is not for weak stomached people or ones who are easily disturbed. I don't want to even sleep again after seeing this.)
I was with my father, my mother, my wife, and one of my close friends. The world has already been through another world war, the sky is dark even during the day because of all the smoke and gasses that had been released while bombing each country. I go into a store similar to a Wal-Mart to find my uncle, and my mom wonders off to get supplies so we can keep moving on until we find somewhere else to live. I wondered off with my friend into this back room...And what I saw makes me sick to my stomach even thinking about it....They had this girl strapped to a table, completely naked...She looked asian....She was bleeding, and bruised. She was crying so much...Then I see a video camera...filming everything they do to her. They have buckets and plastic boxes all over the place. The slowly saw off one of her fet and let the blood drain into the bucket. Then the other foot...They then took a knife and sliced her mouth open on both sides all the way to her ears...By this time, she's mostly purple and pale from loss of blood, but she's very much alive and in pain. I am unable to stop it because I am in a different room and am in shock. Then they hook her through the back with chains and slice her off at the waist. All over her guts start falling into a bucket and her blood is going everywhere. She looks up at me with a tear in her eye, and coughs up one last bit of blood as her body goes limp and her gaze lowers to the ground as she dies....The people in the room print the box art for the DVD and put it out on the shelf for sale. The worlds new form of entertainment...Snuff films. I get pissed off as usual when someone hurts a female and I go into the store and grab a shotgun, two pistols and some ammo. I give my wife a kiss goodbye in case something were to happen to me, and I go in the direction of the room where I saw this happen. I pass a store with a guy with his stomach ripped open and his guts spilling out onto the floor and he's jacking off...
About this time, I wake up. I went back to sleep, and I picked up after we found my uncle and left. We're in this jeep with a green map radar in the the middle of the night, haven't slept for 3 days, and are heading to a military outpost. My wife and mom are already there, safe. I'm with my friend, dad, uncle, and a family friend. We're all packing ammo, riding on this jeep and seeing fireworks going off. And I learn that this was some sort of job. I'm guessing we were keeping the area clean of intruders. And we come over the hill and I'm on the phone with my wife, as I see these two guys shoving this large object down this one guys throat.
I woke up again, and stayed awake.
But this is becoming extremely disturbing...Every damn night I see these type visions. This was by far the worst. The runner up would be the one where I killed myself though because I saw these people eating this poor woman that had been captured....
And my girlfriends always wonder why I worry so much about them....Why I stay awake....How can I sleep, if all I see is destroyed, demented and broken things. I also know if someones cheating on me, because of my dreams...I can find out anything I want in my dreams....It's just going through the process to find what I'm looking for.
The sad thing...I know it's a dream, I know I'm asleep....

Yes it is, I've learned to use them to my advantage. The problem is, they reveal things I wish I didn't have to know. Things I don't want to see. But oh well, what can I do? They're there, and they are here to stay.
And I'd say 98% of all my dreams that aren't post-war, have come true...That's why it all bothers me.

I'm with you brother, only thing I do different is use them as inspiration. I actually like having these dreams, i write them down and form stories with them. Everynight I try to have them, I found out I have the most fucked up ones after a night of partying. It wakes me up in the middle of the night scared shitless but I don't go back to sleep until I write it down. Then I just keep thinking about it while I fall asleep and most of the time it takes me back to that nightmare. I've had reoccuring dreams since I was 4. They haven't stopped, and i'm sure most of them has came true, and i'm sure this has happend to half of the population.
One of the most fucked up dreams that I really hated was the day before my dad passed away, it was about him passing away. I woke right up and went and checked on him, he was fine. That day we talked like we never did before, like it was his lastday, and sadly to say it was. It did help me get through his passing though, the stuff he shared with me, changed my life drastically, and my eyes were open to the world and I seen how it was. The following days, though I felt like he was in the house with us, the two other members in the house and I felt him there, literally. We all kept it to ourselves untill just a few months ago when I mentioned to my mother, about my expierence, that is when she told me about hers. It's weird though because my dog even had the sense that he was there because she just sat down in front of the chair were he passed and just starred, she never did that.
Anyways, yes you can use your dreams as a very big advantage. You should start documenting these nightmare, maybe you will be the next Steve King :-)

I can understand you.I have dreamt alot about the end of the world..I also get these disturbing dreams sometimes. It makes me feel like I am this horrible person for dreaming these things(like it is something I can control).I had people tell me to stop watching the movies I watch and stop reading the books I read because they are the cause of my nightmares, but ive had them ever since i was a little girl.Mostly these day I have been having hypnopompic images. These ocurr right when I wake up and sometimes can be really gruesome and scary.Dreams are pretty weird.

Damn. Lost both my posts. I posted before I accidently deleted it that end of the world dreams are common in tense political and personal landscapes and that they can be indicative of either one. The solution to chronic nightmares is learning to lucid dream. Nightmares want to be interacted with, they want to tell us things and will not stop saying them until we get the picture, make a change or interact with them lucidly. It's like the early point and click adventure games. The thing won't be solved until you find the right response, in the waking world or the sleeping one. Even if there's an apocalypse around you, your mind doesn't just want to torment you about it, it wants to see what you'll do about it. Resolve your personal apocalypse and the nightmare will go away. I too take inspiration from my nightmares but it's hard to write about people taking out your intestines and making you into sausages, or sometimes it might be just be too personal. Not everyone could identify with my estranged father turning into a black, scaly ogre and raping my girlfriend. But, I was able to go lucid on that dream and decapitate him with a shovel and then put his head in the microwave. The nightmare came back until I found a more mature solution. Lucidity and reacting to the waking world in a way that empowers you are the best ways to end the plague, especially when it comes to dreams about the end of the world.

Everybody has nightmares. You know they aren't real right? You understand that you aren't some special mystic with super "nightmare powers" that let you see into an alternate future correct? Just take your nightmares and use them to inspire you to write, or draw, or do something creative with the vivid images you get. Either that or grow a set and forget about it. ;)

-Shakes head- This thread has taken off since I last saw it two page back.
I had two more really weird nightmares last night. The first one I remember the whole thing, the second one I don't.
If it's so that my nightmares are not really something that is going to happen, explain why when I dream someone dies, someone gets injured, someones house burns down, it happens within the month. -Raises Eyebrow-
Also, grow a pair? I'm happy with the pair I have. I don't need another.
And for the last time, I'M NOT GOTH! I'm wearing a white shirt and blue jeans thank you very much!

I also have nightmares along those lines, though not every night. When I do get nightmares, they are pretty graphic and gory. Most of my dreams are just very bizarre. I usually only remember them if I wake-up myself, not when the alarm goes off.
I never dream about things that are going to happen, though I do dream and have recurring dreams about places and then I'll go somewhere and realized that I've dreamt that place before. Some of these recurring places have only been in my dreams and I'll always wonder if they are all real places and I just haven't been there yet.
I will also sometime have "post-apocaylptic" dreams, though in those I'm usually trying to fight for some sort of survival either with or against other people there. I'll also have recurring people in my dreams that I've never met, though most of the time I can't see their faces. Sometimes, I will watch myself in a dream as if I am the audience and myself is just a character, or I'm someone else entirely.
VC, if your dreams are keeping you from sleeping, you might want to consider going to a sleep clinic. They may know of a way to lessen or stop all the nightmares.

Oh my....I have the same problem. The same people are there, but I never see their faces. I'm usually in the same places, sometimes I'll move from one town to the next, but I've been to most of the ones I go to. When I see a new one, I will go to it again in another dream at some point.
May I ask, do most of the people in your dreams wear hoods in the post-apocalyptic ones? Almost like the have a disease of some sort and they do not wish for you to see them?
@Bleeding Angel
Hmmmm...I'm not quite sure how to take that.

I don't remember a lot of people wearing hoods, though I did have a dream with the traditional Grim Reaper in it one time.
But most of the people always seem to have their head tilted in a way so that I can never clearly see their face. It's like you try to walk around someone to see their face and they keep turning with you so that all you see is the back of their head. Sometimes I do manage to "catch them off-guard" and when I look at their face it is blurred out, like just that part of them is out of focus. It's actually kind of frustrating because I do want to see who these people are.

The ones in my dreams all where hoods and hold their heads to the ground....The ones where you can see their faces have skin peeling off, like some sort of skin disease.

VC, I have respected you since I first arrived on HDC. I remember that post about your girlfried not liking all the other girls staring at you in the mall, so, unlike a few people i'm sure who doubt you, I belive you. My friend Danny had a similar problem. He used to have dreams of people getting killed and then he'd find out on the news someone had been in the same way, then it turned out to be the same person. What he did was to listen to calming music while he was going to sleep. Hope this helps.

I'll try the music thing. That may work. I know I had a soothing sounds machine that made some noises and used to help me go to sleep. Problem is, the same one that helped me sleep made me have to the bathroom every hour or so because it was water running. I eventually didn't use it anymore. lol

dude reacuring dreams are very normal ive had the same one since i was 8,so i sympathise with you over nightmare torment, wat you writ was very disturbing, how ever people need to dream because u could go crazy. and as dreams only accure when a person has jus fell asleep and not when a person has reached deep sleep, but there is help there is a natural sleeping tablet which i found called natrasleep, i took these for a couple of days jus to take the edge of the nightmares and i didnt have them for the 2 days, the thing is the help u slip in a natural deep sleep and you pass right through the dreaming stage of dreaming. but i must warn u dont take them all the time because we all need to dream brother.hope this helps.

the trouble with dreams is unless something happens that clicks in your head, you often don't know it's a dream. Therefore, when you wake up, your mind is still in the state it was when you were dreaming so if you were terrified, when you wake up, you could be scared and lash out. If the music thing doesnt work, try going to sleep earlier and setting an alarm earlier than usual. It sucks doing it but as well as when you first go to sleep, dreams happen just as your body is coming out of sleep. If you wake yourself up before your body has a chance to, there's less chance of the dream state.

Do you think the reason their skin is peeling off,is because of chemical warfare?I had a dream similiar to that one, but,i was wearing a hood. But i didnt have a skin disease,i didnt have a gas mask on either.I was alone too.But all i can remember is,tentecales coming out of my stomache, then feeling like i almost died, but never did, then i regenerated. Most of my dreams come true by the way.

I have been quite fortunate when it comes to dreaming. I rarely have dreams and have only had a couple of nightmares in the last few years. The trouble is, the ones I have usually leave me waking up either screaming, crying or sweating uncontrolably. The worst I can remember was where my mum and dad had been infected by this weird red gas which made them have split personalities. Well, as you probably guessed the other personalities were evil.
Well, anyway. It ended with my mum being carted away but my dad had me and my sister cornered in her room. He had a knife and was intent on killing us. Well, since his normal personality hadn't reared for a long time, i came to the conclusion it was gone. I managed to wrestle the knife off him and stabbed him in the chest with it. This next bit seemed to last at least an hour. As soon as the blade drove into him, he became my dad again and lie there, dying in my arms. Confused in pain and dying because of me. I remember his last words as though they were real. "I raised you, cared for you and loved you. It seems these werent enough to keep me from trying to get you. You did what was right for you and yor sister son. I'm proud of you and Love you with all my heart. Never forget that." Even writing this I'm getting all choked up and sniffy.
