An adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist is in production.I wouldn't under normal circumstances be more than mildly interested in another King adaptation however two things set this one apart #1The Mist is one of my favourite King short stories and #2 Frank Darabont has wrote the screenplay and is in the directors chair.
The Mist was originally published as part of the Horror anthology Dark Forces(1980) then it was included in the short story collection The Skeleton Crew(1985).The plot focuses on a group of townsfolk who after a freak thunderstorm find themselves enveloped in an unnatural mist that is the realm of otherwordly and horrorfying creatures,a group of people are trapped in the towns supermarket and face a battle for survival both from the threat outside and the threat that grows within their sanctuary.
The cast includes Thomas Jane(Dream Catcher,The Sweetest Thing),Laurie Holden(Silent Hill),Alexa Davalos(Chronicles of Riddick),William Sadler(The Shawshank Redemtion),Chris Owen(The Sherminator!)and Marcia Gay Harden(Welcome to Mooseport), a solid if unspectacular roll call.
The short story The Mist is one of King's finest short works imho, and Frank Darabont seems to know how to seperate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to the authors work and create remarkable movies from the source material(The Shawshank Redemption is an exceptional movie and The Green Mile is also a fine piece).
All in all i'm pretty excited about this project, anybody else?

Yeah, The Mist is definitely one of King's best stories. I'm actually surprised a film wasn't made for it years ago.

I'll have to see a trailer for this before I get too excited though.

It certainly is a story that screams"adapt me",i am also keen to see a trailer because i think much will depend on how they show the creatures,a few frames of dodgy C.G.I can tarnish an otherwise good film imo.
I feel Frank Darabont is just the man to get this right,so i'm pretty hopeful for this movies chances of being a success.

That is good news - let's hope the creatures are mostly hand-crafted and the film is not drenched in CGI.

Wasn't this done as an audio only thing once? I think I have a CD of it somewhere...

Judging from these pictures it doesn't look like the creatures will be completely C.G.I,which i think is a good thing.More pics and reports from the set over on AICN.

This is one of King's stories that I could actually 'see' as I was reading it...I kept wishing that it had been a movie...Looks like I shouldn't decide to decapitate my genie so fast after all :)

Thanks SO much for the pictures...The picture with the mist through the windows in front of the store was just about EXACTLY as I had invisioned it as I read it...

Whether this movie turns out to be good or bad, it's going to be AWESOME for me just because it was made

I'm very excited about this one
