I just finished watching Dead Silence, here are my thoughts.
I can't necessarily say I am disappointed because I wasn't expecting all that much. Although considering it was written by James Wan I was expecting a little more. There was a minor twist at the end but with James Wan you know there is going to be some sort of a twist. The dolls were a bit creepy and if you are no fan of dolls than this movie will freak the shit out of you.
I will make my main thoughs quick. It was very slow-moving and quite boring. There were never any on the edge of your seat scenes or scares. Quite frankly I just wanted the movie to end. There is nothing to special about it, I guess its a little something different than a girl with black hair crawling toward you like I've been seeing in almost every movie lately. It's something different which is what somewhat kept my interest. My question is how did it receive the R rating? If I recall correctly there was no cursing or sexual content. Actually, I don't remember any gore really either.
Your probably wondering the main question here. Is "Dead Silence" worth seeing? Everyone has their own taste so I can't make the decision for you, because shit, some of you may love the movie. From the reviews I have read people were raving about how good it was. I would say either wait for it to enter the cheap shows, if you have that where you live or wait until DVD. It certainly, in my opinion, isn't worth $10, and the extra $10 I am always pushed into for food.
All in all I wasn't completely disappointed. It was a decent thriller that you should check out, just don't bother rushing to see it. Lets be honest with each other, its a movie about killer dolls, it can't be that great. James Wan did as much as he could and the movie couldn't have been much better. Its hard making a "good" movie about killer dolls. I hope this review helped you out sum. Critics can be a pain in the ass considering they take down every horror movie that exists.
