That pisses me off too. I hate Tom Cruise, grrr.
The only thing that prevents me from completely boycotting the film is that... most of the Iron Man appearances will be CGI, which means that we won't have to look at his alternately vacant and smug expressions during those parts.

He WANTS to. Maybe he loved the comic. If that's the case, why wouldn't he want to? It doesn't mean he will.

Tom Cruise is seen as very bankable and Hollywood is inclined to give him what he wants because their experience is that he will make them money, despite his ability or lack thereof.
I don't know what sort of influence you have in Hollywood but I would guess that it's not quite the same amount.

know who else is big in Hollywood recently? Asthon Kutcher. Know who's not gonna play Ironman? Ashton Kutcher. As bad as HW is sometimes, they're usually pretty good about who to cast in comic book movies. The worst choice I can think of is George Clooney in Batman, and they made up for it by casting Christian Bale in the new one.

If cruise wants it i dont imagine many other actors getting it from him. Hes one of the biggest names in hollywood. The producers are gonna see him as an instant success to the movie. I DONT think ashton kutcher is gonna beat out Cruise in terms of hollywood clout.

Tom Cruise has had hit movies for 20 years (Risky Business was made in 83, believe it or not). That's not 'big recently' that's monolithic. That status gives him a lot more clout than Ashton Kutchner.

At least we agree about something. Clooney was a rotten Batman.

I say that Christian Bale guy is amazing he nailed the whole yuppy thing in American Psycho and even drew a fucking tear from me in Equilibrium as the lovable bad ass cleric. Tom Cruise as Iron man is not good. Christian Bale as Batman. is good

Cruise is good, but he's not an action hero guy.
Bale, on the other hand, is both. The next Batman movie will 0wn every other Batman movie ever made.

That is a tall order to fill, the 1st Batman movie will always be the best. As for Cruise yes he can act, but thats about it. When I hear him talk in interviews he sounds like a complete moron, he is by no means a thespian. If he wants to play Ironman HW will lwt him but it will ruin it for me. Affleck ruined the DD movie for me, the only thing that he is good in are Kevin Smiths films.

I respectfully disagree, in my book he's that bad. The homophobia (he refused to play Lestat as bisexual), the smugness/cockiness, the vacant look in his eye, the feathered wings... there's a lot to dislike. IMO.

Never been a huge Tom Cruise fan, but have liked him in some roles. I usually try to ignore what asses actors make of themselves in real life but kind of hard to avoid the fact that he has completely lost his mind.... But it wouldn't stop me from seeing a movie he was in.
However, I have always liked Robert Downey Jr, and I like him for this role. Just hope he doesn't screw it up with any crazy antics. :) I want to see him do well dammit. He's such a talented actor.

I read the book years before the film and it was one of most moving and haunting stories I had ever read.
When Tom and Brad got picked for the movie - when I watched it I was horrified to find that they had miscast each man. Reversed roles would have better suited both characters. DEFINITELY!

I think he was good in Collateral, and I also agree his performance in Magnolia was very strong. I have to say, he was actually a lot better in Interview with the Vampire than I would have thought.
