My mom has always been a horror fan, but not as much as the rest of us. I'm always trying to bring her something from blockbuster that she'll enjoy, and I think i've run out of movies she likes. I need a lot of suggestions, because she hates the stuff I get now.

Things she will HATE and not watch are movies with:

-Language (Some is ok, shit, damn, hell, bitch, etc is fine)If there are more than 5 f bombs it's too many, and G-dammits-Less than 10?))

-Sex (Try to keep sex completely out, if there's boobs or an ass she'll flip...)If it's under covers or just implied or something, like FT13th 3 for example, it's ok)

- Torture- forget about it... Now saw, hostel, nothing.

-Hardcore violence- Even if its a slasher or something, it can't be too hardcore. Hardcore as in, overly VIOLENT. Killing is fine, but stuff like wolf creek, with flinger slashing and just outright brutality is too much.

- Nothing that possibly comes within 456023650miles of belittling religion, like Frailty, that'd piss her off.

-No comedies{yeah I know it's sad, she hates horror comedies and stuff like evil dead 2 and nonsensical things} *Humorous is fine, but not outright hilarious

Stuff she loves:

-Monsters that are decently creepy -<alien, pumpkinhead, etc, she loves that>

-Slashers of almost anykind, just not bruttaaallll.

-Vampires! She loves them, yes she's seen salem's lot.

-Ghost style films are her favorite, always. She loves The Others and The Changeling, things like that. Hell, she loved White Noise over Psycho! Anything ghostly with lots of suspense and atmosphere, etc.

Examples of movies that she likes a lot:

SILENT HILL
FRIDAY THE 13TH
THE OTHERS
THE CHANGELING
SKELETON KEY
ALIEN
SECRET WINDOW

Stuff like that.

Has she seen The Descent? I don't remember it having alot of language, and it didnt have any sex. It wasn't too graphic either. If your mom liked stuff like Aliens and Pumkinhead, I would think she would dig this film.

There's a good ton or so of language in that one. I need to just get her a guardian thing that bleeps it out...

After very carefully reading your post, I would like to suggest:

Horror of Dracula
Bride of Frankenstein

What violence you see is very NON-graphic; no swearing; and no sex.

Oh I would never watch something bleeped like that. It doesn't bother me or anything, my mom just can't stand it.

Reminds me of the time some years back....I bought a Metallica CD from Wal Mart. I unwrapped in the parking lot, put in my CD player in my truck, and heard BLEEP, BOING, and other random noises in place of curse words. It was CRAZY! I went right back inside and told them they had to take that shit back.

did they do it ?

Oh hell yea. You bitch loud enough, Wal Mart will take back anything. :p

Fragile by Jaume Balagueró
http://imdb.com/title/tt0422272/

I have ONE reccomendation for your mother, and I am 100% sure that she will love it. It fits everything you listed spot-on, EVERYTHING. I cannot stress this enough - both of you, sit down together, and watch it. It's severly underrated.

A heart-warming ghost story with stylish direction, and intelligent writing. A twist that you will not see coming... and of course, even if it leaves you with a smile on your face and a tear in your eye... it still packs a level of tension and fear throughout the film that is essential to all horror films.

Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of terror/violence, and some thematic elements.

You will not regret renting this movie for you, or your mother. It's excellent.

Try: The Others and Kairo (not the American 'Pulse' - even though I did enjoy that as well)

Crabs was spot on with B.O.F. and Horror of Dracula.

Horror Express, Children of the Corn, The Body Snatcher (1945), Night of the Living Dead, and Suspiria are others you and her may enjoy.

Ooh! I know! The Fog (1979) would be perfect! No sex, minimal profanity (if any) and plenty of creepy ghost-slasher excitement and chilling atmosphere!

Yes, absolutely, I agree:

The Fog
Watcher in the Woods

Both very scary films that feature no nudity, very little onscreen violence or none at all, and no really overt swearing.

And Watcher in the Woods--especially being a Disney film!--it is nice to see this film mentioned on HDC because it is one of John Hough's better movies. This was before Touchstone Pictures was created (allowing a Disney offshoot to tackle R-rated productions), and Disney Studios had this strange notion to make a REALLY SCARY PG-rated movie with supernatural/paranormal elements. Talk about an extremely intense and unnerving film! Once again, here's proof that you don't need chainsaws and blood to scare the crap out of your audience.

There are some VERY good PG and PG-13 horror movies out there like Poltergeist, Let's Scare Jessica to Death, and Watcher in the Woods. We all want less PG-13 horror movies but instead we should be asking for GOOD horror movies instead.

Thanks, that is a good one, but trust me she's seen every Vincent price movie there is. Same with Hitchcock. She's seen most of the classics that everyone knows about, it's modern stuff that's hard to find.

Ooh! Good suggestions, _V_.

My mom doesn't even like horror movies, but she likes Rosemary's Baby. In fact, she was the one to introduce it to me.

And The Haunting; Easily one of them most geniunely scary movies ever made.

Make sure you go for the 1963 version though, not the awful remake.

And on that note, Dead of Night (1945) and The Innocents (1961). And I've heard The Uninvited (1963) is a good one as well, though I haven't seen it myself.

Sounds like she would enjoy some Asian horror. I mean, no language, plenty of ghost films, you'd have to be careful to avoid the hardcore violence, though.

I think all of em cept Omen 3 are watchable. Then again, it depends on the interest of the viewer. Posh's Mom will dig those for sure.

On that note...

The Child's Play series...

The Vanishing...

Se7en...

Darkness Falls...

Final Destination...

Beetlejuice...

Sleepy Hollow...

Deep Rising...

The Relic...
