Are you superstitious in any way?I saw a lone Magpie the other day and without thinking about it i gave the Magpie a quick salute and then said"Good morning captain"to ward off the bad luck that it is said would befall me if i didn't carry out this "ritual".I will not walk under a ladder,i will not open an umbrella indoors and i will not place new shoes on a table, all because it is said to bring bad luck!
When it comes to good luck,i was once out gardening when a passing Starling decided to drop one right on my shoulder, this in my part of the world is said to bring good fortune and strangely enough that afternoon i won a large amount of money on a little gamble i had.
So what about you?do you have any superstitions?do you do certan things to ward off bad luck?or indeed to bring good luck?do you believe in any of it?over to you!

As uncanny as this may seem..
i do not tempt fate.
My chilean relatives are very superstitious..from the walking under ladder thing to throwing salt over thier left shoulder..chanting something while spit is flying out of thier gummy mouths.
Maori customs..do not reply to a hooting owl..
always toot your horn as you pass a cemetary..
never continue your long distant journey if you approach half a rainbow..
never turn your back to the sea..
a menstrating woman must never swim as it will contaminate the waters.
never leave a cemetary without washing your hands/face or any part of your skin that has been exposed.
If you drop something into a coffin..it stays there.
never take photos of the living beside a headstone.
never take pics of a body in the coffin.
(ironically..alot of white ppl do the 2 above)
never drop bury pics of the lving with the dead.
never look at yourself in the mirror after midnight till dawn.
never whistle in the house after dark..or cut your hair.

Wow,i havn't heard of many of these, some of them are pretty creepy. The throwing of salt over the shoulder is one i do myself too,it wards off the devil so i'm told, also i've just had lunch(Steak&pasta)and when i had finished i put my Knife and fork down in such a way that they were crossing, for this i received a sharp dressing down off my better half as this too is supposed to bring bad fortune.

"Good morning captain"? Good Lord, have I been offending single magpies my whole life? I'm doooooooomed.
I try not to walk under ladders.
I avoid black cats that try to cross my path, even if I know them, although they get by sometimes.
I avoids cracks in sidewalks and streets.
Like the number 7, am suspicious of the number13.
I try not to break mirrors.
I won't walk on the grates on the city sidewalks.
Where does it stop being supersticious and start becoming OCD? :p

Oh yeah! I try never to spill salt. I try to "respect" animals...that one's hard to describe but I think it is bad luck to disrespect an animal...
I never heard about that "Good Morning Captain" thing...that's pretty freaky, calling a magpie Captain like that.

I knocked over 13 black cats with a bucket of salt, and all 13 cats smashed into a mirror that was under a ladder. One of the cats said, "Beware the ides of March!" and I said "Shut up biotch--go fix me turkey pot pie!"

I'll Never put a hat on a bed
Don't whistle on/backstage
Don't say "Macbeth" on/backstage
When driving over train-tracks one must lift feet and touch something blue
Not particularly superstitious, I simply love ancient tradition and enjoy teaching my children the same

I think that magpie one is a pile of crap, You would hardly ever see more than one magpie at a time, and as for walking under ladders, well it's normally easier to walk around them, so why would you walk under one? etc. etc.

Disease is gonna have 1000 magpie shit on his head for this..LOL.
As for the ladder thing..
lazy ppl walk under it rather than around if its in thier line of walking.
In my country anything that has a picture or any icon with a peacock on it is deemed unlucky.
I wonder how all these superstitions started ???

As far as superstition, pfft, sorry, but I do most of the stuff you people here avoid, for fun. :D
Bad luck? No more bad luck than I was born with.

But may I ask, what exactly is this "luck" of which you speak? You cannot change the course of your lifes ending anymore than you can change the stripes of a zebra. Everyone has a course they must follow, and the course has many paths and branches, but in the end, you end up at the same place.
I've learned to live with what life throws at me. I've changed a lot over the past two years. I may get down sometimes, but I always wind up back up on my feet and running.
There is no luck, just life....
