This used to be one of my favorites, but I hadn't seen it for years. I recently picked it up for $5 at DeepDiscountDVD and finally got around to watching it last night. It wasn't as scary as I had remembered, and I find Bill Pullman far more annoying now than I used to. However, there were a few parts that still get to me no matter how many times I've seen it. Something about the horror of being buried alive never seems to lose its impact.

Great flick. I love this kind of thing, and it never gets done. Real zombies- the way the "myth" was originated- through tribal voodoo. It's scary stuff. 'Serpent' has a very original storyline and chilling atmosphere. Creepy as hell.
If you like this, check out I Walked With a Zombie.

I thought it was one of the most orignal plots in a long time. Very well written. The book was an awesome read as well.
I never seen I walked with a Zombie but it is now on my viewing list. Thanks for the recommendation alkytrio

Pullman is the man. From Capt. Joseph Korso to the president of the USA, and from Prince Lonestar to Dr. Rex Martin... I love his work. Anyway, Serpent and the Rainbow is one of my favorite zombie movies and it's packed with some unforgettable scenes. Even had some genital torture before genital torture was cool.

May I make another recommendation before you buy it singularly?

Easily the most-watched boxset I own, and a spectacular gem to add to your collection. Nine movies and a feature length documentary- only $40.

Loved it. Probably one of my favorite films by Wes Craven.

I've always loved this film. The fact that it's based on a true story and explains how this could actually happen just makes it all the more attractive. I've seen several interviews on Discovery, etc. with the actual guy Bill Pullman portrayed. Fascinating stuff to think that this is how pharmacuetical companies come up with the wonder drugs.
