Whose movies do you think are more consisently scarier and better overall? AND what are some of your favorite movies by your more beloved director-aside from the obvious HALLOWEEN and ANOES.

I cant choose over the other... big fan of both directors... although I prefer Cravens older stuff... i`m not a fan of his new shit

Gotta go with Carpenter on that one because of movies like "The Fog", "They Live", "The Thing", and "Big Trouble in Little China", which are his best excluding "Halloween"

Carpenter, though Craven seems more able to fit commercially into Hollywood without losing what made him cool in the first place. Scream was commercial and still good, whereas Carpenter's attempt to make a Hollywood-style movie, Escape From LA) was a mess (Sane shooting basketball). Hopefully Carpenter will stick to his guns and keep putting out low-budget, enigmatic movies showcasing his anti-heroes, stuff like Vampires and Ghosts of Mars. Besides, Craven still has to answer for Vampire Of Brooklyn!!!!!

Wes Craven. Just a personal preference, because I've met the guy. If he hadn't re-vitalized the Horror genre with NOES and Scream, who knows where the Horror genre would be. Like it or not, the more people that see a certain type of movie the more those kinds of movies are produced...and Wes has produced consistently scary movies.

since I'm assuming we're talking about the horror movies, I'll go with Craven. Carpenter tends to not do horror movies.

i guess it depends on YOUR definition of what a horror picture is. i'm quite familiar w/ John Carpenter's pics and i can think of a few off hand that IMO would fall into the horror category, like:
CHRISTINE
THE FOG
PRINCE OF DARKNESS
VAMPIRES
HALLOWEEN
GHOSTS OF MARS
THEY LIVE (BORDERS ON SCI-FI BUT A STILL A HORROR IMO)

scary movies often equal horror for me..not necessarily gory

village of the damned
in the mouth of madness
body bags

more horror type movies....hmmm, kinda a lot for a director that doesn't really do horror

duh! THE THING! what was i thinking..how could i forget such a classic?! so some of his movies border sci-fi but they're scary and that's good enough for me. seems kinda like horror director compared to let's say james cameron.

Carpenter. He's made some of my favorite movies and he's WAY more consistent.

Carpenter is a better director IMO, but I enjoy Wes Cravens movies more. I think its more in the writing etc. etc.
