...or am I the only one who doesn't think Freddy Krueger is cool?

Not the countless kids who post under that name, but the actual character...

I love horror movies, of course, but the "Nightmare" series were always so...blah to me. And besides that, as I mentioned, the guy just isn't...cool...

Granted, some of his "kills" were pretty neat, but the guy himself, his "style" is so...lame! Since when were vests and fedoras cool? C'mon, gimme a break!

Yeah, I know I'm gonna get hell for this, but that's just part of the fun...

Lay it on me!

I never really thought of him solely as a character but appreciated the series for its orginality and quality through substance

ive always liked the series. that bitch in the body bag always gave me the creeps. but really i only thought freddy looked scary in new nightmare. kind of an uber, more industrial freddy, lost the hat, gained some giant boots and a nice trench coat. i thought he looked dope as fuck like that. but yeah really before that he did kinda looked like a jackass. like "oh shit that dude with bad acne and a sweater is coming for us!!!"

Hey! Lets not forget his sick twisted and evil mind! His right-bladed-gloved-hand and his evil sinse of humor! Freddy is E.V.I.L. He is the boogeyman!

Freddy Krueger is probably the most original horror icon in the business.

Look at all of the other famous killers. Michael wears a white mask, Jason wears a white mask... it's pretty much all the same. Freddy is a very original character. The only villain even close to Freddy is Chucky.

I completely agree with you! I was going to say much of the same thing! "except for the Chucky thing" Not only are Mike & Jason simalure because of their masks they pretty much have everything else in common too! They're both really slow and they both just won't die!

Don't worry Vamp. It's not just you. I think Freddy's OK, but I was never a fan. I don't know why he just doesn't appeal to me. Oh well, to each their own fave horror characters!

Michael is original if only because he came first. Is it his fault that there are a lot of ripoffs?

Freddy was okayish, but he was always being too charismatic to be scary. I mean, you can either get a 'that's SO scary!' reaction or a 'hey, that's pretty cool' reaction, and Freddy always seemed to go with the latter.

I must comment about the fedora. It's not about who wears it first or at all. It's about a man putting it on and being able to say, "I make this shit look good." He may not be Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca, or Lestat (in just about anything he's in....I mean fuck, Rice can write a piece of shit novel [and she has] but put a sexy vampire "wees a fwench ahcsaunt" * and it's ooh-la-la]), but he (Freddy) also doesn't stand there, say nothing and randomly whack at people with a butcher knife/machete/etc... He adds style and if nothing else dialouge. :D

*Haunted tries to "write" a French accent after six years of studying

But truthfully, I know what you mean. Some of the villains just don't do it for me. Micheal and Jason are so boring. Halloween was great slasher flick, but I can only take so much of the "strong silent type." I mean, hell, even the zombies in NOTLD at least moaned.

It's okay. You're still cool.

freddy is cool. one of the most original characters to date. maybe SOME of the sequels weren't quite par for the original they were all still pretty good.

Iwe only seen one of the nightmare-movies, dont know which of them though. It was the one where the child went over the freeway alone(from the hospital to their house i think). Anyone know which number that is?

I like the very dark Freddy. I think Freddy is probably the most well known horror guy. At least his name is. Comedians always refer to him (or Hannibal Lecter) I notice.

The Freddy from part 5 and 6 are the only ones I hated. They were way too silly. When Freddy is written right, he's very creepy and scary IMO.

Michael didn't just randomly hack and slash either.

Freddy always seemed to have that "lounge comedian" kind of schtick, very sarcastic. The Don Rickles of horror. LOL

He hand an agenda, sure. I'll admit that. Jason, really had a little bit of an ugenda, but if you were at a party with him, and you had nothing to do with Crystal Lake, you're still fair game.

Lay it on me!

1. Its the early 80s.

2. Freddy is an old guy. (Mid to Late 50s) Are old people fashionable? I think not.

3. At least he has a great back story before the series, while you have Meyers who kills for no reason, and Jason who shouldn't have a reason to kill after his 4000th reincarnation. (Who also is a blantent ripp off of Meyers)

4. Could you come up with a concept more original? Some guy who kills people in their sleep, as opposed to giant beyond the grave zombies with over sized weapons slaughtering people. I think the only original movie besides the NOES series is TCM.

and my least favorite NOES was 5, that movie completely fucked the story line up.

Plus every movie after 3, Freddy had lost his badassness, he was becoming too funny. Except for Nightmare 7, since Wes directed it, he was a badass in that one.

EDIT
Oh yes let me add something.

I wouldn't find Jason or Micheal even remotely scary if I saw them in real life. Now a days burglars dress like them. But a guy who is burned from head to toe with a nasty ass voice. Not to mention as he's slaughtering you in every which way, not only can he laugh at you as you struggle, but he can talk trash to you also. Whereas Jason or Meyers have nothing to say.

I must applaud you there. That was absolutely the best way of putting it. However, some people get a little offended if you don't bow down and worship Jason or Micheal, but who gives a shit.

Anyway, I think you made an excellent point. It made me chuckle such that my drink came out of my nose.

And I'm not saying I hate Jason or Myers, I think they both have respectful movies. (Except Jason X and Halloween 3)

But I still prefer Freddy over them. I defend what I must cherish most, only instinct I suppose.

No harm

freddys way better then the other slasher villians like jason and micheal myers. my only prob w/ freddy i s after the 1st few NOES movies he got to comical and wasn't that scary any more. he did have very creatvie ways of killing ppl ( the girl turning in to the roach and squashed in the roach motel, pulling someone inside the bed, etc) any way all micheal and jason did was stab stab stab. not to creative
