I was watching Scuzz the other day and I only noticed that they barely had any 80's rock. I don't know about you but I thought the eighties were as prosperous for rock as it was for slashers but now by most people in my generation, they're almost forgotten. I play Black Sabbath, Motley Crue, motorhead, alice cooper, kiss, van halen etc. on my iPod at school and nearly nobody know who they were. So, since I wasn't born in the eighties, I can't judge them all too well but I am interested in your opinions. What do you think of eighties rock bands and what were your favourites? I've made the connection of horror to rock so hopefully a lot of you are also into that.

Also, which brand of rock do you prefer most? Metal, soft, pop (shudder), basic eighties, Emo or any others?

I'm a big fan of some of Dollar's early 80's work, their Trevor Horn singles mostly. I love that song "Give Me Back My Heart," it's so damn sweet.

Guns N' fuckin' Roses. 'Nuff said. They were THE rock band of the 80s.

I usually think of G'n'R as more of a 90's band. Appetite For Destruction was definately one of the best albums of the 80's, though.

As far as bands that define the decade for me:
Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
Megadeth
Metallica
Ratt
Cinderella
Twisted Sister
Motley Crue
Van Halen
Ozzy

I always thought of Kiss & Cooper as 70's bands.

I suppose you have a point there, but I guess Appetite was really the only album of theirs I ever got into big time and since that was late 80s, that's the decade I equate them with. You're right though. Most of their albums came out in the 90s.

Well the 80's give me a lot of good groups:

The Cult

Motley Crue

Sisters of Mercy

bauhaus

I know that maybe 60's and 70's were better for rock but I preffer to listen to groups from the 80's than things like emo, new metal and all that kind of music

All these are great bands. TO tell the truth I mainly made this thread because I have room to fill on my iPod. Do you lot like slade, atomic rooster, status quo and thin lizzy? They're pretty cool. What about rock music in films? What do you guys think? There should be a whole section on HDC about rock! Do any of you guys think steve tyler has a very thin face and odd mouth? But he does rule.

The 80's produced an amazing heap of creative music. It was another musical renaissance I tell ya!

OH! oh. And, uh, people, people. Let us not forget, EBN-OZN and their wonderful song "AEIOU Sometimes Y."

That video was on MTV all the time and I remember we used to laugh and laugh whenever it came on because it was so goddamn weird.

The guy from Europe and Brett Michaels looked very feminine back in the day.

I sing that at school whenever a teacher's walking towards someone to have a go at them. It's pretty funny when you're there, especially when the teacher seems to be walking to the beat.

If you're talking 80s Dylan, Death is Not the End got a bunch of airplay, didn't it?

I like New Wave bands a lot.

i mentioned this in the music section, but I realize that it fits here too.

The Pixies!

These guys were insanely good and by and far one of the most influential bands of all time, yet not a lot of people seem to know of them! Kurt Cobain said flat out that the Pixies were his main inspiration to get into music...Meanwhile Nirvana fucking blew up while the Pixies remained fairly obsolete. "Where is My Mind" is probably one of the catchiest songs of all time. I've introduced tons of people to The Pixies and I've created a lot of fans.
