I still don't have a copy of Phantasm for my collection, and I'd like to get one. Anybody heard anything about upcoming releases? I don't want to buy it now and then have a superior version come out a month later.

I probably should just buy that set, but $60 seems a bit steep considering I really only care about the first film. Still, that sphere does look pretty damn cool.

I do recommend the original R1 release if it's the first film you're interested in...sadly out of print right now but you can find it online. It has a huge number of good special features, mostly from the laserdisc release some years ago. New 5.1 remix that does sound very nice.

I have a feeling I'll end up buying the sphere in a moment of weakness. Of course, I'm trying to keep my DVD spending in check as I save up for a new car and a new computer, both of which I'm going to need soon.

Well, thats your call. Its your money. If your a fan of Phantasm, its worth every penny. If your not then dont get it. I would also advise go out get your hands on them b4 you just go by opinion.Just cause some one likes them doesnt mean you will.

Yeah, I would always suggest renting a movie first so you know you like it and are willing to watch it over again.

Yes it is regarded as a classic to fans of the genre. Your interest in the genre is reassuring. Half the movies that come out today aren't even "real horror". There is too much implied violence, and not enough actual violence. I say rent them and if you like them fork out for the movies.

I would kill for that set, please ask me to kill for that set.:D

The first movie is a classic and the best, but I've liked the entire series more or less. Definitely worth it.
