Personally I'd prefer to see a totally unrelated story. That was a great ending, left you thinking...if they continued from there it would ruin it.

In any case though, I really enjoyed the first one and am definatly looking forward to a sequel.

Well the only way to make a second film it's forgetting the game, 'cause the facts on the first film broke with the trama of the game. Anyone who has play will know, just can't go further if I dont wanna tell must part of the next film, don't want to be a expoiler

Return, did you think that they went to heaven or hell at the end? At least the way I understood it the town was purgatory and when they left it was either heaven or hell. Since it was totally peaceful and stuff, just misty and mysterious, it seemed like a heaven. But... it was totally vacant, silent, eerie... What did you think?

Well, if that's heaven....... I still want to end in heaven, i guess.

We didn't see an alternative really. Unless you're talking about when everything goes ashes and pyramid head comes out and stuff, then yes. That being said, Silent Hill is def. purgatory. By the way I realize that was a complete circle, I just needed to state that.

I don't think it was heaven OR hell...The way they explained it was that they were all caught up in a world of the little girl's making...The strength and power of her pain, anger and strong need for vengeance somehow trapped all of the guilty (through force of the little girl's will...Telekinesis?) in a limbo in which everything that happened was exactly what the little girl (and the woman as she grew older) wanted to happen...She somehow suspended them in her own purgatory that she controlled...Maybe she was granted that power/privilege because of the terrible things they did to her, because they deserved it and she was innocent...

Anyway, as far as the mother and daughter at the end, I SERIOUSLY don't believe that they were dead...It's more like they were stuck in an alternate reality...It made it seem as though there may actually be a way to cross back over...

I was hoping that the second movie would bring them back home...But, it may very well just leave the last one where it was, and start over with something else...I do hope that they can make as many movies as games, and that they continue to make them as well as the first...I would LOVE to see elements of Part 4: The Room, in a movie at some point...That would be incredible

Here's some news:

Silent Hill 2 movie confirmed

[UPDATE] French director Christophe Gans tells magazine DVDrama that the movie is "well underway," though there's confusion over Neil Gaiman's possible contribution.

There are a slew of film adaptations of video games in production right now, Hitman, Alice, and Postal, for example. Now, according to director Christophe Gans, Silent Hill 2 can be added to that list.

Gans, the Antibes-born director of the first Silent Hill movie, has revealed that a second SH film is on the way and that it will correct the mistakes of the first.

The original Silent Hill, released on April 21, 2006, told the story of Rose Da Silva, a mother who sets out to find a town called Silent Hill, which her daughter Sharon calls to in her sleep.

Gans confirmed in an interview with French magazine DVDrama that "there will indeed be a Silent Hill 2 and it is officially ordered and is already well underway. Once he has finished his adaptation of Driver, Roger Avary will be [working on the script], helped by his friend Neil Gaiman."

Roger Avary is a Canadian-born director, producer, and writer. He has previously worked on the screenplays for the first Silent Hill and Killing Zoe and won an Oscar for his work on Pulp Fiction.

British author Neil Gaiman is most famous for his series of Sandman graphic novels and has also worked on screenplays for the TV series of his novel Neverwhere, as well as Mirrormask and Princess Mononoke.

However, Gaiman's actual contribution is now under some doubt, after a post on his own blog stated, "Yesterday I discovered pretty much all of my FAQ messages were people asking whether I was really going to be writing the Silent Hill sequel with Roger Avary. I'm afraid that I don't think I am--I mean, it's the first thing I've ever heard of it, and I'm sure that if they make a sequel Roger would want to write it himself."

Gans' original statement has since been retranslated, so until there is clarification from Gans or Gaiman, some mystery still shrouds the title's development.

Gans added that he may not have time to take on the project himself, due to his commitments on the adaptation of another video game project, Onimusha.

When asked who he would like to see direct if he were unable to, Gans told DVDrama that, "If I cannot take on Silent Hill 2 myself, the director who does would need to continue in the same style as the first film. One does not want to make a Hollywood-style movie, and I think that it makes sense if the director of the sequel is European--in the best case scenario, French."

He also revealed that he was planning a special two-disc collector's-edition DVD of the original Silent Hill, but that would be a long time coming, possibly not for two and a half to three years, and that he intends to start work on it only after finishing up Onimusha.

Some pretty huge news has been hiding in an interview with author Brett Easton Ellis for nearly a month now over at Chuck Palahniuk.net.

During the chat about The Informers, interviewer "Dennis" asks Ellis if Roger Avary is still attached to direct Glamorama.

His reply is shocking.

"He’s going to be shooting Silent Hill 2. As far as 'Glamorama', it’s just very hard to get the money to make it."

Roger Avary wrote the first Silent Hill, Pulp Fiction and directed the awesome Rules of Attraction, so this is a bit of tremendously exciting news! Wait for further details on this as they develop.

Columbia Pictures has finally officially announced a sequel to Silent Hill, which will begin production after the completion of Sony Screen Gems' Resident Evil: Afterlife.

Screenwriter Roger Avary and Samuel Hadida of Davis Films are returning. The screenwriter and producer have signed on for a sequel to their 2006 video game adaptation.

The original, based on the Konami game, centered on a woman who travels to a desolate town to seek help for her ailing daughter only to find supernatural occurrences taking place there.

Davis Films aims to shoot the movie next year after "Resident Evil 4," which it's now prepping.

TriStar released the original "Silent Hill," which earned $47 million domestically; the label has not confirmed involvement on the follow-up.

Avary, best known for his work on Quentin Tarantino scripts such as "Pulp Fiction," also is penning video game adaptation "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" for Davis Films.

The deal is one of several projects for Hadida's company. The French-based banner has come to Toronto with two projects -- Michael Bassett's "Solomon Kane" and the Terry Gilliam-helmed "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus."

In addition to the "Resident Evil" franchise, Hadida counts movies such as "Good Night, and Good Luck" and "The Rules of Attraction" among his credits.

No word on a director yet? Heard awhile back that Gans wasn't planning to return...interested to know who'll be taking the reins. Thought he did a great job on the first, hopefully the next one turns out on par.

The first movie, while it was technically very good, completely botched almost every storyline the games had throughout them. I'm interested to see where this sequel will take the story after butchering it so badly. I hope I will be pleasantly surprised. I'm sure I'll enjoy it more if I can detach it from the games (1-3 at least) and their untouchable perfection.

nice, i was extremely surprised by how good the first film is. I rented it and thought the absolute worst. Let's hope it's rated R like the first and maintains it's close ties to the games. I'd love to see a much grittier version though. The first film looked fantastic but silent hill always has that a grain effect in the games that really helps in making the experience unsettling.

Silent Hill promo posters
The second installment of the Silent Hill series leads an egocentric and fame driven Cincinnati journalist, author, and television personality named Darren Cartland, into Charleston, West Virginia, to work on a documentary about the nearby abandoned mining-turned-resort town of Silent Hill. He finds himself trapped inside of a rapidly closing, and shape shifting shopping mall with a mysterious young woman named Kara. The exits are mysteriously blocked with impenetrable, seemingly organic, mesh gates and a series of disturbing noises and muffled voices from an unknown section of the mall, first lead the two to face each other, and then sheer unimaginable terror. During the second act of the film, the transformed shopping mall acts as a gateway and forces Kara and Darren deep into the town of Silent Hill itself, in the search of Kara's true identity. Darren quickly learns that there is more to her past than she is letting on, and the town itself is holding a longstanding secret, forcing it to take on a life of its own, beyond any imaginings of a scorned child, and more like the power of a long dormant, now awakened malevolent force. One that will make them both confront what they for so long buried in the recesses of their subconscious minds, separately or together.

Filming to begin spring of 2010.

It's all about the American Film Market this morning, a sinister, foggy side-street of which leads to Silent Hill 2, and its just-signed director Michael J. Bassett.

Silent Hill: Revelations, loosely based, like its predecessor, on the surreal horror videogame franchise, centres on the character of Heather Mason, a teenager who, on the eve of her eighteenth birthday, starts having nightmares that lead her towards the titular town, and the mystery involving her father's disappearance.

Heather is a character from the third game in the series, a direct sequel to the first, set seventeen years later. She was the baby given over to the care of Harry, the first game's protagonist, at its conclusion, when the Silent Hill cult was - temporarily, it turned out - defeated.

But with the first film playing so fast and loose with its source material, it's unclear as yet how close a fidelity the sequel will keep to the original story.

The first Silent Hill's director Christophe Gans came to Silent Hill following the fantasy/horror actioner Brotherhood of the Wolf, and Bassett will be following a similar trajectory, arriving at the sequel fresh from this year's rather good Robert E Howard adaptation Solomon Kane. Will he aim to emulate Gans' mad, nightmarish visuals (definitely the film's strong point), or find a way to put his own stamp on proceedings whilst adhering to the thoroughly unsettling atmosphere of the games?

Will Sean Bean return? Will there be nurses?

Last we heard, Roger Avary had written the script (as he did first time around), and Samuel Hadida was producing. Their aim a year ago was to get Silent Hill 2 underway as soon as Resident Evil: Afterlife was finished with, so all seems to be going according to plan so far.

Expect 3D.

Shooting was in full swing at Cherry Beach, east of Toronto, all during last week. The entire place was transformed into a twisted fairground with rabbits in bags, dead fish and demented rides in the Michael J. Bassett-directed Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.

Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington, Sean Bean, Radha Mitchell, Deborah Kara Unger, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Malcolm McDowell all star.

While Silent Hill introduced audiences to acid-spitting monsters, sexy undead nurses and the flesh-ripping Pyramid Head, fans of the franchise will see a few more familiar names and faces. Carrie-Anne Moss will play Claudia Wolf and you can tell from the pictures that her creepiness will rival return cast member Deborah Kara Unger’s (Dahlia). The photo with producer Don Carmody sitting on a throne introduces what appears to be the character Valtiel. Though it’s just a statue, he could easily be the fan-favorite of this film, much like Pyramid Head was in the last one.

SYNOPSIS - For years, Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D will reunite former Silent Hill cast members Sean Bean, Deborah Kara Unger and Radha Mitchell resuming their previous roles. Newcomers to the series include Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones), Malcolm McDowell, Carrie-Anne Moss, Heather Marks and Adelaide Clemens.

The sequel is scheduled for release some time in 2012.

When I saw the scene in Evil Dead where Mia sees herself in the woods, I flashed back to the scene in SH:Revelations where Heather meets Alessa. They are eerily similar. Anyway, I enjoy this sequel, although its second half is rushed, and think it a nice companion to the first film.
