This is a thread that you post the fan films, shorts and low budget films that you find online. If you'd like, PM me the links and I'll put them in this first post so that they don't get lost among the rabble.

Please do not send fan shorts that are clips from numerous movies put into one clip. I want the ones in here to have had some effort put into them.

Yes it would. I have it saved to my computer as well. I watch it from time to time. I wish the creator of it would release it on DVD. If you go and look, you can find some outtakes for it as well.

I remember quite a few years ago I happened to catch a short on tv, late at night.

It was called "Drip" (IIRC) and was about a women coming to a new house for the first time (her husband was going to arrive later). She settles down for bed with the pet dog but is affected by a constant dripping sound in the bathroom.

It was so spooky - she keeps going to the bathroom to sort it out and once back into bed, puts her hand down by the side of the bed to stroke the dog, she does this for a while and then the drip starts up again. She gets out of bed, goes to the bathroom and finds the dog hanging up with its throat or guts cut open (cant remember quite what!).

In horror, she wonders what she was stroking down by the side of the bed.

The camera slowly pans away from her horrified face, back to her bedroom and under the bed and underneath in the dark is some kind of demon.

It was brilliant!

Has anyone else seen this short film and, most importantly, does anyone know where I can get it from. Spent hours googling, trying to find it but couldnt :(

Out of curiosity - what did others think of Drip?

Proves a point to me, how de-sensitised we become after years of watching the gore fest type films that came out.

Drip did scare me the first time I saw it years ago - obviously watched it again the other day and the end scene just didnt do it for me anymore. The lead up is still spooky and atmospheric and the slow crawl to the scene under the bed is freaky but the end *flash* of the demon was an anti-climax!

THE RAGE is a 28 Days/ Weeks Later fan film set in Glasgow, UK, that we've been putting considerable effort into for the past 7 or 8 months. Parts 1 and 2 are on you tube now. Part 3 of the film (the final part) will be released on Friday the 15th of August 2008.

Episode 1

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0JgiJo5VK0M

Episode 2

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XVuHlNOsCOE

The film is set in the world of Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later taking place toward the end of the first film. (2002/2003) It's more action than horror if truth be told, but there's a few scares in there for good measure.

It was made on a budget of next to nothing with actors and crew giving their time up for free to work on it. All vehicles and locations used in the film were borrowed.

I'd really apreciate it if you guys on the horror forums could spread the word, and please feel free to forward this on to interested parties. This film was made for an audience to see and enjoy and it's on you tube so is totally free to watch!

Cheers

Carter

After dropping a lead actress 12 hours before shooting, losing our locations each day, scratching half the script to at least have a coherent storyline, severely lacking extras, oversleeping during last day of editing before getting in the mail to make the deadline and getting sucked in to breaking my personal oath to never make a zombie film, I sheepishly present 'Maybe....', my entry for The American Zombie Horror Film Fest in Charlotte. A possible recut is in order for future fests if it gets a decent response. Opinions, anyone ?

Leland_malinski
08-10-2008, 07:15 AM
decent job Mr. S., a lot better than the last trailer... The stock footage in the beginning is a good touch... I wish the car scene attack in the beginning was a little more intense... i.e. Night of the living Dead, I was a little lost about where the older lady was when she first when into the building..the audience has no sense of direction.. because you changed eye lines about 7 times.. The music was good... The ediitng was pretty tight.. Not a whole lot of story... Zombie were pretty weak.. The one shot that did get me, was a handheld shot, with a zombie face at the very end of it.. towards the middle...
Anyway... it was a watchable short film.. so congrats..

What role did you play in making this? Editor/director/writer?? what??

Oh, acting was Crap compared to The shrieking... So that falls on the director.. that little girl couldn't get off that monotone..

alright man... good luck with that...

Mr. S. how many MB can you up load onto Angel fire?? You can upload full HD onto Crackle.com ..

MisterSadistro
08-10-2008, 12:35 PM
A lot of the insert look shots are from always keeping the camera rolling between takes (miniDV doesn't cost like film so why not ?). In original version of script, there is a much longer dialogue and between beats it would cut to mass of zombies getting closer to car. Needless to say, I let actress run through dialogue to keep on schedule for 2 days allotted (besides not having a mass of zombies LOL). Plus we lost the location halfway through that scene. Half of it was shot in greenscreen in a driveway at some point.
Not all of the opening was stock footage. There was a double murder shootout one night when I was coming home and as usual had camera with to get some of the police, etc. I did resist the temptation to show one victim's body laying in the street since to me that would just be disrespectful.
The building the older sister explores was a condemned grease factory. We got kicked out of there second day of shoot as well. I snuck back in to get some stock shots, POV and greenscreen backgrounds alone. She and I eventually went back for 5 minutes to at least get her walking through it to tie it together. I did a bunch of silhouette shots of stumbling zombies to insert over some of it, but since I had fest deadline, it wasn't done in time. ugh. I hate deadlines. I also wanted to add more of the quick zombie face close ups fades, too, so you never really see who or where they are. You just know they are which to me is creepier. Overall it was definitely not the movie I intended to make and proves the "you make a movie 3 times- when writing, when shooting, and when editing". I might do some reshoots on it to get it back towards it's original intentions though. Oh well. It is what it is.
I was the writer. director, DP, editor, sound mixer and executive producer on it, but I sold the executive title for $1 to woman who runs a horror magazine as a joke so I wouldn't have to list myself as paying for it LOL Plus she'll promote it since her name is on it. Not a bad deal really.
The free version of Angelfire has 20MB I believe, but you can buy one with more for $19.95 I think. I just hosted the video from my real site and made the temp page to display it. I'm not allowed to do anything on my "real" page anymore since I crashed it last time.
Thanks guys.

Are you mounting your own remake, Chris, or are you part of the group who announced their remake two years ago and have been working ever since?

No joke. The only reason at all a movie should be remade is because it had a great idea that never worked out (rather than the "how much more money can we make off the name of a proven winner ?" scenario) so I wanted to remake the worst to support that claim. Zombies and spaceships are about as cool as it can get and the original never played up either angle.

Yes, I know about the other one. I've been wanting to do this for years and am glad that I mentioned in that interview so it doesn't appear that I'm trying to jump on the bandwagon. Adding Conrad to the movie just seems.... desperate ? I wish them luck on it. I've got my own film to worry about :D

For those of you who care about this sort of thing...

I have recently hooked up with an animator who is bringing one of my creepy kids poems to life. Don't want to say which one just yet. The Animator has some mad skills and I adore his concept work so far.

We're still in the early 3D modeling and concept sketch phase. I will keep you posted as things develop, but I'm really excited to see this project come to fruition.

So, if you liked Tim Burton's "Vincent" you'll dig this bit of morbidity.

This isn't exactly a short or anything but I didn't know where else to put it, just a teaser (and I mean teaser in every sense!) of a film I'm working on right now which is an odd mixture of Evil Dead/Shaun of the Dead/Lord of the Flies and the Music of Chance. Thought people here may be interested.

Feel free to move this post if it should be somewhere else. :)

Im actually looking for a specific horror short. Was wondering if anyone knew what it was called or how to find it.
Back around 2000-2002 Sci Fi did that show Exposure. Before that, they played these random short horror films. One was about this guy who wanted to be the first person to die when the clock struck midnight on the new year. There was one about this girl who takes her boyfriend home for dinner to meet her family who turn out to be cannibals. But the one Im looking for is about this guy that either shows up to this chicks apartment to rent it or for a date or something, but either way, it turns out that the back room in her apartment is covered in plastic and she gets him tied down to a table and goes at him with a chainsaw. It was pretty crazy and I havent been able to find it since. I figured someone here probably saw it too and maybe could help me find it.

OK. So I actually think that the direction is really good - How shots are framed, the editing, that sort of thing.

The voice over honestly drives me mad - It's heavy-handed and really gets in the way of the movie. Also, I really don't care about any of the characters, so I'm ambivalent as to whether or not they live or die.

Thanks for watching it.. Yeah, i know the writing is crap.. haha, what happened was I am a comedy writer, I wrote for 4 years straight, then took 4 years off to learn to edit, then the last two I have been shooting and directing so, when i came down to doing this short film. I was concerned about directing and not writing.. I needed to go back to square one and make sure the script was good.. before trying to make a film, but you live and your learn.. I am trying to develop a feature length script based off Barnacle Bill, well, see how that goes, once again, it's not comedy.. Thanks for watching.. I do appreciate it.. and the honest criticism is always nice..

No problem - More than happy to. Really wish that I had the motivation, drive, equipment, etc. to put together a short film of my own - I know it's not an easy task, so I don't want to rip apart what is clearly a true effort.

Hey - If you're a comedy writer and it's what you're comfortable with, why not do a horror comedy? I mean, you could take the source material (Barnacle Bill) and turn it into a fun cheese-fest instead of something serious, you know? Then you can take the voice over and make it even MORE over the top and it'll be successful.

Also: Two REALLY nit-picky things... The opening shot, the guy sitting in the boat - for some reason I couldn't help but focus on his, uhm, crack. :o

And our first scene in the car, I'm not sure why our heroine goes from complaining about her small town to screaming outside the car - She goes from frustrated and angry to fun-loving. Just an odd transition. Why not just make her a stereotype backwoods slut? Again, going for the comedy aspect of it might be more fun. :)

Then again, I'm sure a lot of people give you "suggestions" - It's up to you in the end. Good luck with your next endeavors - Keep posting them here! I'd love to see where they go!.

Yeah, I put the butt crack in there in the beginning because I wasn't taking myself seriously, I knew the film was going to be flawed and majorly flawed at that. The guy in the boat is a good high school friend, as is everyone one in the film, so it was just so every-time he watches it, we see his ass crack.. hahaha, plain and simple.

as far as the girl's emotions in the car, the scene was actually supposed to start with her screaming outside of the car, then going into the dialogue, but what happened was on the shoot day we ran behind schedule. I lost two dialogue scenes, and a transition scene, that ties the scene to next one.. I also lost scenes at the party, so I started having to get creative with the edit. Which is a reason why it took me so long to complete. this is far from what it's meant to look like.. there are a lot of things in the movie, that I am like what??? but whatever..

If you want to check out what I've been doing, I actually work for def jam and thelifefiles.com, as well as run my own production company.. www.acrossthebridgeproductions.com (http://www.acrossthebridgeproductions.com) and then more of my personal work can be found at http://youtube.com/acrossthebridgemd

I know my website sucks, but I am looking for someone to step that game up..

As far as a comedy/horror that is exactly what I plan on doing with Blood in the Bay feature length.. Its going to be kind of Eastbound and Down meets Halloween

I saw a short film last night, it lasted about 15 minutes, and it was called This is Sling Blade. Has anybody else seen this? From what I gather, is tells about a guy who years back, killed his mother and the guy she was with. He then is being interviewed by some people, and then gets a job. From what I have been told, this short subject film, is related to the movie Sling Blade. Is this true? It seems to be the case to me. So is it or is it not related to Sling Blade?

The project I am creating is a full length student film entitled "Scarecrow from Outer Space". The plot is quite simple: an alien ship crashes in the desert after failing to make a proper landing in the Midwest. What is aboard this ship? Well, a killer scarecrow from outer space!
I am trying to combine the simple, fun, and some times cheesy feel of a 1950's B-movie with the look of a modern independent film. "Scarecrow from Outer Space" is, as you may have guessed, a film about a scarecrow from outer space crashing in the desert. The film will follow a similar plot structure as the original Sci-Fi/Horror films of the 50's, but the film will be shot in color and take place in present day. This film will bring that nostalgic feel to those who grew up watching these films on TV in 1960's and still have the ability to gain the attention of a new generation. The film will be shot by film students at Arizona State University. We are all very excited and passionate about it so check it out! A teaser trailer should be up some time in the next week. The pages will be updated regularly.
Thanks-

I've been watching the old short films of Kenneth Anger so far I've seen:

Fireworks (1947) The one to watch. Highly recommended. Surprising to see such violence and gore in a film from the forties. Though do not watch it if you think the word gay means stupid.

Puce Moment (1949) No idea what the point of this was. Avoid it completely and do not watch.

Rabbit's Moon (1950) Just about watchable but only for Anger fans.

Eaux D'Artifice (1953) Stupid time waster. Don't bother with it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yWBahg-DVA

I hope whoever watches this enjoys it, and feedback (positive or negative) is greatly appreciated. Enjoy!

First off, it really shouldn't have taken you three years....Say less, do more. You're script is ridiculously naive and people are pretty much narrating their actions at times. If you aren't a good writer then cut the script down to the bare minimum and work on building tension or interest in other ways. Editing is a bit crap, the fades are just clumsey and you should be able to knock stuff out at this standard in hours, not years. Story is kinda tedious in general. I could say the acting is bad, but to be honest that is to be expected in zero budget stuff anyway and its nowhere near as bad as the dialogue anyway.

I'm sure you will read that and be disappointed by the amount of negative feedback, but in my defense, I did sit through the whole thing and it is pretty bad! If you really want any advice and plan on continuing with this project I would advise you scale things back, make shorter videos based on single scenes and work out exactly what you are trying to accomplish with the scene. Anything that doesnt aid towards that goal, discard or refine. Its better to end up with a 30 second clip of something decent than 15 minuites of dross.

A couple of friends were responsible for this one. I especially love that Adam Savage of Mythbusters and Penn Jillette from Penn & Teller star in it. A fun nod to old school campy horror.

Here's a short film I made about a bunch of people who survived a zombie outbreak and get together in a therapy group.

Zero budget short didn't turn out exactly the way I wanted, but I'd love it if you took a look, left a comment (good and bad). Local theater actors were used as well as people from the local indie film scene. The screenplay did win an award for best short at the RIP Horror Festival last year. So there's that at least.

Hi guys,

We wanted to do something a little different for our horror short, so we based it on ASMR. It was a challenge to work ASMR into a typical horror film style, and still be effective for those that experience ASMR. It has at least done well in festivals with 3 Awards, 10 Festival Selections & 3 Semi-Finalist Selections.

Hope it's of interest, and would love to hear your thoughts on our short film 'CLOSER'.

LiRQPhMwNik

SYNOPSIS:
Stumbling across ASMR videos late one night, Sarah is intrigued by the phenomenon and its calming effects. When a suspicious video pops up and automatically plays, soon she accidentally ventures down an online rabbit hole. Plagued by phantom whispers and apparitions, she is unsure if everything is in her head or real.

WHAT IS ASMR:
ASMR means Automated Sensory Meridian Response, this is a pleasant tingling on the back of the neck and head caused by certain sounds (whispering) or visuals, and which some people use to help relax or to get sleep. Looking for a new angle in horror, it was our own experience and appreciation of ASMR that lead us to create this short.

The Hidebehind

tP7imEcclVk

Hidebehind is a fascinating nocturnal creature from American folklore that preys upon humans that wander the woods. When someone attempts to look directly at it, the creature hides behind an object or the observer and therefore cannot be directly seen...therefore its ability to conceal itself creates some intriguingly playful, yet creepy encounters.

This only 10 minute short from Parker Finn interestingly captures those attributes and made me wonder why there aren't more horror films made about this creature yet! This is a good enough monster that deserves some attention & love from the genre filmmakers & the studios.
