I'm having a craving for some 80's pop culture. The 80's were the shit, I love that time period!

It's a shame that there are no books from the 80's available, or beter yet TV Shows from the 80's on DVD! That would be almost as good as being able to find millions of internet sites that are dedicated to the 80's with music videos, stars, and fashion all highlighted. Oh memories, you're all I have. Even downloading 80's songs or... hell... I'd even settle for a Grand Theft Auto game being set in the 80's. :(

The 80's in general were great, especially the movies and the ridiculous styles. I just think that this decade had the most personality, if that makes any sense.

I love the 80s too. I have been trying to find The Wonder Years on DVD for months. I have found one sketchy site that sells burned cds it's wierd.
I listen to 80s music the most, it's great. It was so different. The styles were horrendous for sure but great at the same time. And of course as Dave said the horror/slasher flicks were the best. They just don't make em the same anymore.

Now, my own personal experience of the 80's was a tremendous amount of fun. I could go on describing it unendingly, all the weird, wild, crazy things.
I started listing some of it but really, beginning to describe it doesn't describe it. But I recall the air really seemed fresh back then...especially early on a fine Saturday morning on Melrose Avenue in Hollywood...roaming around with friends, looking in all the weird stores, passing by the bakery with the delicious donuts and coffee.

I'm 32 and I also love the 80's. I hated the music and fashions at the time but now when I look back it was some of the best times of my life.
It's when I discovered one of my passions in life.....

Oh, I edited them out...seemed too specific...but yes, there were Mods, a lot of them, and a lot of punks and different types...very colorful really. These folks looked strange but tended to be pretty nice.
Nowadays, when I see someone with green hair walking down the street, I think, "Ah! Thank god there's some decent folk around... Now I feel safer."

My first band t-shirt. It wasn't this image. It said GWAR on the front, but was colored to look like some one had ripped GWAR into your body and your guts were hanging out. On the back was this mutant kid coming home to his mum. On the top it said, "In case you didn't feel like showing up," and on the bottom it said, "Pray we don't come to your town." My bro got it for me at his first "real" show. He's five years older than I am. In fact I got introduced a lot of things by having him around...
Like.. Ildojo, my brother had the McGill board, when he got the Tony Hawk he passed the McGill down to me. He also used to skate freestyle. His first board was by the skater...can't remember his name, but he was older than the rest of those guys, had a wife and kids, but was an incredible freestyle skater. Do you remember him?

I think it's taking a long time for people to acknowledge that there was a huge musical renaissance in the 80's. Incredible inventiveness. Back then, you could turn on the radio and hear a shocking range of new styles. A few of these continued on into subsequent decades. But many, many more were experimented with in this time period. There was really some great music to be heard.

That's true. I think most of the CDs I own were made in the 80's. I rarely find new music I like. I guess there is really no such thing as new music anymore anyway. God I miss the Cosby show and Garbage Pail kids.:D
Minor Threat, Black Flag, The Cro-Mags... and of course the greats... Depeche Mode.. Flock of Seagulls..
Don't forget the great hairstyles.

I agree. Most of my music is 80s too. There was such a mix of music genres back then, you were nuts not to find something you like. Now all the new music is pop or rap that all sucks. Back then you could have some pop, rock, hardcore, metal etc. The bands now just aren't the same.
The hairstyles were great too lol.

actually i liked their first album .. after that i just found them too sterile - even at their 'dirtiest'
Didnt realise they were so popular over there urge,i get some funny looks if i say i am a fan nowadays, they're still making some good stuff today.

I haven't heard their recent stuff or followed it in some time, because I thought their most creative period was back there in their first four or five albums or so. "Some Great Reward," I thought, was some kind of achievement, and was the prettiest music they did before becoming completely dark.
Strange to see photos of them now, after they've made such a tremendous name and such tremendous money...strange to think they were starving blokes with keyboards a couple of decades back.
